Where is spirit located

Trying to find Where is spirit located

So this has been a thing with fans for many years

Where is spirit located.

I feel it can be worked out but i don't think i can do it myself

So why not make it a community thing

What the project is:

The project is to find where key locations are in the film and books

How can you help:

I will list things that need to be found out, your job (and mine) will be to find out this info and cite resources etc. Info from the 1800’s is best but modern day will do depending on the info.

If you find it in a book please if you can post the book and and author.

All the info i can gather will then be stock piled and i will see what i can work out.

Anything posted will go into my research doc (link) and from there if used i will credit you in the final article.

Things we need to find:

Land speed of a tb or QH (modday standies can go 30 miles an hour apprentley)
Land speed of a mustang
When and where Bonita was when attacked

Where the lakota tribe might be
Where the sirra mountins are
Where the cimmaron heard could be
Where the masa is
Where the rocky gorge is

Where the rail way is
A river in the lakota tribe that is near a forest

The movie commentary states that the filmmakers weren't aiming for a historically accurate story, but rather a kind of everyman-location for their story. So because of that, it's going to be very hard, if not impossible, to pinpoint a precise location for the setting of the film, especially because many of them do not match what would have been historically accurate for that time period.

For one example, the Lakota village that Little Creek takes Spirit to is in a valley that closely resembles Yosemite National Park. However, it cannot realistically be Yosemite, because in real life, the Miwok tribe inhabited Yosemite, and their way of life was much different from that of the Lakota.

It might be easier to just say that the locations in the film were BASED on locations in real life instead of trying to pinpoint them exactly as they appear in the movie, because that could lead to confusion.

Here's some info about certain scene settings (Sources - Wikipedia):

- The rocky canyon;
It is supposed to be the Grand Canyon, in Arizona.

- The Lakota tribe (and the river);
Apparently the attack made on the Lakota village by the Cavalry was part of the Wash(ita Battle.

- The Cimarron herd's home;
live next to the Cimarron River. The river runs (to quote source) '' . . . across New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Kansas . . . ''. I'm not sure which part of the river Spirit's herd lives near, however.

- The railroad;
The track that was being built in the film was the 'Transcontinental Railroad', which was apparently heading towards Nebraska. According to a map (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overland_Limited_(UP_train)#/media/File :The_Overland_Route_1908_Map.jpg), the railroad ran from San Fransisco, California, reaching Nebraska by cutting through Nevada and Wyoming.
