Rook was born and raised in the cavalry fort. His mother was a beautiful arabian mare named Nefertari, alson known as Neffie. He grew up pretty close to her, and never really knew his father. He was always out on hunts, or stuff like that. Rook felt pretty lonely after a while, but when he reached the age of 3, he became a independant, and earned himself a rider. His name was John "Spark" McKenzie, and he was nicknamed Spark because of his strong determination when challenged to do something.
Rook was proud to carry Spark for a year or so, but then something happened between him and The Colonel, an argument. From then on, he became really angry, and the slightest things Rook usually did, like chewing on the bit on a Monday morning, or jerking at the rains, earned him a bleeding cut on his flank. Rook didn't like Spark anymore, and one day Spark went too far. He bought spurs, and everytime Rook disagreed, he didn't earn a cut on his flank. He earned an excruciating pain under his belly, when the sharp corners of the spur dug into his flesh. Soon he couldn't take it anymore, and during a lonesome hunt, he threw him, and returned to the fort riderless.
A year later, a beatufiul buckskin mare arrived at the fort. She didn't look very happy about it, and was the toughest mare around. Most of the wimpy stallions were actually afraid of her. Rook just laughed at that, and began to tease her, to see how far she could go. Soon he did push her to the limit, and she kicked him in the guts. Rook had been through alot of pain, but that by far was the worst. But as the days went by, the pair began to fall in love.
A week later, the fort was raided by the lakota village. Rook tried to defend Alai when he saw the axes, but was pushed aside and watched Alai go in despair. He spent a whole two months in training for a raid to get their food. He was only really going to get Alai back though. He didn't care about food. On the way there, rumors were thrown about saying they kill animals in barbaric ways and paint all over the horses and give them accesories. All the cavalry mounts laughed except Rook, who began to get worried. What if they had done that to Alai?
By the time they reached the villiage, Rook was desperate. He soon saw his girl and whinnied to her. When it was over he tried to convince her to come back to the cavalry, but she said that she hated it there, and wanted to be wild, and not be a pet, cavalry or lakota. So Rook and her left their homes and became wild.
But soon Alai left Rook, and he roams wild.
