Rain's Must Be Breed.

Rain's Must Be Breed.

I've done tons of research on this breed/type. This type/breed has been the most closest to what people have been saying. Enjoy!

Okay, I've done a lot of research on this breed and found out a lot. Most People say Rain's a Paint, wait... No! She's a Pinto! Well lets guess again? No, Lets not please... The closest breed that is related to her is the Cayuse Indian Pony.

Remember the first time we seen Rain? She was cantering over to little creek after the escape? Well she had a very glidish broken gait? Well they qoute "Small and stocky, the Cayuse Indian Pony has high withers and an unusually long canon bone. In addition, its distinctly sloped pastern gives it a broken walking gait. " She had high withers and very long canon bone giving her the graceful lengthy veiw.

Also, The coats? This is where we have trouble.... Most of you say Rain's a Paint/Pinto/Mustang/ or Unkown breed, Well right here they listed   "By the 1800s, the Cayuse Indian Pony had become a separate breed. The Cayuse Indians, known throughout the Northwest for their expert horsemanship, continued to develop this French-Spanish Barb strain through selective breeding. Because the French horse had the ability to pass on its tendency for spots or a profusion of white markings, the Cayuse Indians were able to produce some very colorful horses. In fact, the Appaloosa, Paint and Pinto breeds have all been influenced by the blood of the Cayuse Indian Pony. "

Also most will ask how did she get there then? Well here is your anwer of course! "Years later, the French Canadians brought their horses into what is now American territory. It was recorded that they bartered their horses in St. Louis with the Pawnee Indians, who then took them further west. Eventually, the Indians crossed their sturdy French horses with the lighter Spanish Barbs to produce a horse which had not only speed, but endurance. "

Alrighty if you still don't believe me read on, if you do believe then I truly thank you for reading all above! *Note, You can still read!*

And from researchers point of veiw "One little known horse from that period of American history is the famed Cayuse Indian Pony of the Northwest. Although the settlers called most horses raised by the American Indians "cayuse ponies", the Cayuse Indian Pony of the Northwest is a distinct breed which originated in the 1800's. Its conformation and its background set it apart from the mustang, Spanish Barb or other wild horses. " I really do believe Rain is a Cayuse Indian Pony!

Veiws! Frederic Remington  was very famous for his artistic skills of drawing Cayuse Indian Ponies! and I searched his website and he had a pony that looked like Rain not completley but if you also look on google most of the Cayuse Ponies/Horses have Bald Faces I recall!

So the very last thing! Remeber how Rain was a couple of inches smaller then Spirit in the movie? Well the correct height of a Kiger Mustang is 15.3 to 14.1 hh, Well the Cayuse Breed is fairly 14.0 to 15 hh! That gives the mild expression she may also be a Cayuse and her Roman Nose Feature is (most likely) from the Perchon maybe! So comment below of what you think!

This is what I think! I think she may be a Cayuse Pony cause the Cayuse's are mixed breeds that the Indians would ride back in the 1800's so really there's no exact breed of Rain!

Thank You for Reading!

I must say, this is very intriguing to me as a Horse person! Your theory brings up many good points. However, seeing as how Rain is an honorary member of the American Paint Horse Association, I must disagree. :icon159:

I still don't think she's full paint though, Her parents are different breeds so she's not pure or even full paint.

Livie- I didn't say she was a Pinto, I said Cayuse Inidian Pony.... and It said recently. So she could've been one before they made the change. :/:

I agree here, with you about rain, the breed was bred with many other horses, as well but mainly the breeds you say, and rain was cross with those breeds.
