A quick article on equine height and how it's measured
Having been working with horses since I was 6 years old, I must say it's somewhat painful to see so many false horse measurments on this site.
This is a very brief article on how to measure a horse's height.
A horses' height is not measured in feet, but rather, hands.
A hand is 4 inches. For example, a horse that is 16 hands high is 64 inches tall.
As the horse gets taller, it goes to 16.1 (65 inches), 16.2 (66 inches) and 16.3 (67 inches)
If it's an inch over 16.3 hands, it jumps right to 17 hands.
So, having a horse OC that's "16.4 hands" or above is a completely false measurement. The correct measurment for "16.4" is 17hh
For example, if Spirit were an inch over 15.3hh, his height would jump right to 16hh (NOT 15.4hh...there is no such measurment)
I hope this article has been informative and helpful.
I hope to see more accurate measurements in all of your Spirit Source equine OCs :)
