A few years after the Lion King, because of the success of their recent sequels directly released on video (Aladdin), Disney decided to make a sequel.
Like all the others sequels from Disney, this one was realized by an external studio called TV Disney. It came out in 1998 and has been re-edited on DVD in July 2004. Because of the lower budget, it's clear this sequel wouldn’t be on the same level as the original Lion King, though it's still considered as a good sequel.
This film was originally released on October 27 1998 to the United States.
Disney official scenario :
In the African savanna, Simba and Nala gave birth to the next queen of the lion kingdom, Kiara. Stubborn, carefree and adventurous, the young lioness likes to hang around in the wild, always evading her baby-sitters, the eccentrics Timon and Pumbaa. One day, she penetrates the forbidden territory and meets another young lion, Kovu. Son of the perfidious Zira, he was chosen by Scar to be his successor on the throne he lost to Simba. Both lions soon become united by friendship, which does not please their parents…
