As everyone knows, TLK was a great success! But not EVERY cloud has a silver lining... did you ever think about the troubles they had...?
The Lion King started off well. How hard could it be to create a movie with the basic animations, based on Hamlet, that has the story already written out for you, which all you have to do is give it a Disney Twist?
Alot harder than you may think.
Disney had problems with the film when it came out. People accused them of being racist, not showing African people or having any african words in it.
Disney argued, at first, that it was a children's movie and that they didn't need people to tell a story about animals.
They then went on to say, "Where would people fit in?"
Most people were referring to Kimba the white lion and how they had people in it, in fact, a human was almost the main part of the feature film.
By this stage, Disney had given news about the books, the Lion King Six New Adventures.
They claimed they would have people in it. This stopped the critisisims... for a while.
Suddenly, during a interveiw a director said, "I don't know why they say those things; Rafiki was based on a Tribe's Witch Doctor and Hakuna Matata was another Tribe's language for 'No Worries'.
Then the books came out and the uproar began again. Although they wern't as bad this time, a cork on the fishing hook you could say, as Disney had included in nearly every story about TLK, an African word.
When the sequel came out, once again they started. This time Disney said about Upendi, the whole theme of the song was the African Word.
This toned down the critisisims. When 1 and a half came out no-one said a word. However, the critisisims still hang today...
Overall article-It IS ridiculous/. Almost all of the names mean something in Swahili!
