Disney has confirmed a new Lion King TV Series- but will it fly or fall?
2015/2016 is looking like a good year as far as TV Series' are confirmed- and we've heard of a lot of remakes coming our way!
The news is there's a new Alvin and the Chipmunks TV series coming to Nickelodeon (which sadly got the CGI effect of TMNT but since it wasn't so bad I don't think we should judge on animation just yet).
There's also a reboot in the works for Danger Mouse (we believe it to be animated via Flash but since only a poster has been produced as of now no-one can be sure)
The latest Marvel movie Guardians of the Galaxy is getting a TV series for 2015/2016 as well, but little else is known about that.
What we do know a lot about is that Disney is looking to reboot The Lion King one more time- but not in the way they did with The Lion King 1 ½- rather they're bringing it to the small screens for a TV Series called The Lion Guard.
After the success with the 3D release of The Lion King, it's no wonder Disney wishes to come up with more ideas for Simba and his Pride!
The Lion Guard is set to launch as a TV Movie in November 2015 and for a TV Series in 2016. The show will revolve around Kiara's younger brother Kion so this film will be set after The Lion King 1 and The Lion King 2.
The story goes that Kion befriends a cheetah (Fuli), a honey badger (Bunga), a hippo (Beshte) and a egret (Ono) and forms a group known as 'The Lion Guard' to protect The Pride Lands and its inhabitants.
The show runs along the same idea as Jake and the Neverland Pirates and Sofia the First in that characters from old films return as characters in the new ones.
Disney also plans to have an educational slant as most TV series do nowadays, in The Lion Guard's case this will be environmental.
Of course it wouldn't be Disney without the promise of a whole new range of toys and merchandise so collectors, get ready!
It will be interesting to see if The Lion Guard sticks to the tradition of most reboots (which is normally aiming high and falling hard) or will take off as it's initial film did.
Regardless, 2015 looks like a good year- and I'll bet we all can't wait to see The Lion King return to screens!
Until then, Lion King fans, this is Shivu signing out!
