Jungle Book characters
Mowgli is a Man-Cub who is the main character in the films. He seems to be a stubborn 10-year-old, but is fascinated with life in The Jungle. He makes friends easily, such as with King Louie and Baloo. He loves to be adventurous, but it sometimes makes him reckless.
Another thing about Mowgli is that he hates the idea of having to go to the Man-Village. This changes when he arrives and sees a girl, who he instantly falls in love with. He is later adopted by the girl's father, and is happy whether in The Jungle or in the Man-Village.
Voice actor : Bruce Reitherman, Haley Joel Osment
Bagheera is the one who originally saved Mowgli to begin with. He seems to look out for the well-being of the Man-Cub, and seems to have become something of a second-father to him. His mission is to lead Mowgli back to the Man-Village, while avoiding several misadventures along the way.
Voice actor : Sebastian Cabot, Bob Joles, Dee Bradley Baker
Winifred is the mate of Colonel Hathi. Little is known about her, except that she dislikes his stern military-like attitude in leading the herd. She is very caring, but also can stand her ground when necessary.
Voice actor : Verna Felton
Shanti is the girl that Mowgli saw at the end of The Jungle Book. She became his adopted sister when her father adopted Mowgli into the Man-Village.
Voice actor : Darleen Carr, Mae Whitman
Baloo is present in every Jungle Book-related franchise, and is easily one of the most-recognized Disney characters of all time. He is known for his care-free attitude, as well as his usual recklessness.
While not a very smart bear, he is shown to look out for those he cares for, going as far as to risk his life when Mowgli was in danger. He also has an appetite for anything and everything. His favorite song is "Bare Necessities".
Voice actor : Phil Harris, John Goodman, Pamela Adlon, Ed Gilbert
Shere Khan the tiger hates man, and as such wants to kill Mowgli before he can become a full-fledged man instead of a Man-Cub. He is fearless, cunning, and very dangerous, though he doesn't seem to go out of his way to injure animals. He seems to actually enjoy being dangerous, going so far as to make up a "game" when he finally catches Mowgli. He fears only two things: Man's fire and (in the book) guns.
Voice actor : George Sanders, Tony Jay, Jason Marsden
Kaa is a boa constrictor, very cunning and, apparently, prone to sinus sickness. He appears frequently trying to eat Mowgli, and seemingly can hypnotize anybody. The only exception is Shere Khan, who alone can make Kaa shiver with fear.
Kaa appears in most Jungle Book franchises. His approximate length is 42 feet.
Voice actor : Sterling Holloway, Jim Cummings
King Louie is an ape who wants to be a man. He kidnaps Mowgli so that he can learn all about being a man, particularly how to make fire. His "castle", really just ruins from an old civilization, is totally ruined when Baloo and Bagheera appear and take Mowgli away. King Louie has not been seen since.
Voice actor : Louis Prima
Colonel Hathi apparently was involved in a war that also involved humans, but has since returned to The Jungle. His mate is Winifred. He leads a pack of elephants--more like an army--in a military-like fashion throughout The Jungle. He is shown to be stern, well-disciplined, and has a low tolerance for any mess-ups that may occur.
Voice actor : J. Pat O'Malley, Jim Cummings, Stephen Furst
Hathi, Jr. is a child elephant, who wants to grow up to be a colonel just like his father. He encounters Mowgli and instantly becomes friends with the Man-Cub.
Later, when he finds out that Mowgli is missing, he asks his dad to help Bagheera search for Mowgli. He seems very loyal and a good friend.
Voice actor : Clint Howard
Rama is the adopted father of Mowgli. He is at first resistant to adopting a Man-Cub, but in the end decides to do it. When Mowgli has to leave ten years later, Rama is reluctant, but eventually decides it is best for Mowgli.
Voice actor : Ben Write
