As with the previous movies, Ice Age 4 is known to feature some winks to other movie. One of these would happen when Manny sings on part of "The Candy Man" song from 1971's Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Two famous blockbusters are referenced during the downhill charge of the army chipmunks. Their downhill charging pays homage to Rohirrims in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and their blue face paint is a nod to William Wallace in Mel Gibson’s Braveheart.
And no Ice Age movie is not complete without a reference to a previous film, which in this case is references to the third film. In this case at the beginning of the movie, Scrat is falling down to the centre of the earth, and passes Buck battling Rudy once again.
Sid also makes a jab at the third film by saying "We met some dinosaurs. It made no sense, but it sure was exciting."
