The History of THE FOX AND THE HOUND

The Fox and the Hound isn’t exactly the most fondly remembered film according to Disney, which explains the lack of proper behind-the-scenes documentary. Luckily though, a devoted fan by the name of Adam Zanzie emailed us his insightful video essay on the 1981 animated feature, which we are pleased to feature on the site (embedded below).

Zanzie was originally going to make this a feature-length documentary, but a expensive rights price prevented this. Nevertheless, this 15-minute video details the film’s intense and troubled production cycle, based on conversations he [...]

      HELLO BRONIES AND PEGASISTERS!

The Art of My Little Pony: The Movie
      [Hasbro / VIZ Media LLC]

With My Little Pony: The Movie coming close to release, more details of The Art of My Little Pony: The Movie have surfaced. Nakou has been presenting some of the art book sneak peeks on the French side, so I thought it would be neat to show them here for us English users!

First we have reference sheets of the Mane Six, each with their own description. I have created a page dedicated to character concept art that features these.

Nostalgia Critic - Cats Don't Dance

This year he reviewed Balto, and now this? It seems like Channel Awesome’s Nostalgia Critic (played by Doug Walker) has reviewed yet another animated movie featured on Animation Source. This time it’s the much-requested Warner Bros. cult favourite Cats Don’t Dance! This episode is a much-shorter editorial-like review to see if the movie holds up well, and he admits liking as a good kid’s film.

      [Warning: Video contains some profanity.]
[Review beings at 0:35 after PSA on the FCC.]

It is however strange to think that Doug would end up actually reviewing Cats [...]

      Despicable Me Source goes retro!

      Hello Animation Source!

I just wanted to post a quick update to say that Despicable Me Source isn't abandoned (as far as care goes, but any submissions and discussions would be fantastic), and to be on the look out for new material regarding Despicable Me 3!  I can't promise that I'll ever add any screenshots to the site once the DVD comes out later this year, but I will certainly add character pages and other content to the site when it becomes available.  As of today, I added a better description of the film's plot on the information tab, then created a page for the [...]

Despicable Me 3 - Good or Bad?

Universal/Illumination’s Despicable Me franchise is still going strong. After two highly-successful main entries and huge cash piles with a Minions spinoff, Gru and his family are back on a third mission in Despicable Me 3! Now fresh in cinemas, does it match the critical and financial success of it’s predecessors?

      Despicable Me 3
      [Universal Pictures]

Well in terms of reception, it doesn’t seem to reaching that level thanks to mixed reviews, but that defiantly doesn’t mean the movie is bad. Hovering between “Fresh” and “Rotten” above the 60% mark on [...]

My Little Pony: The Movie - Official Trailer

      HELLO EVERYPONY!

      My Little Pony: The Movie
      [Lionsgate]

Here on Animation Source and My Little Pony Source, we are pleased to announce that the first full-length trailer of My Little Pony: The Movie has finally been released online! This trailer will also be attached to screenings of Despicable Me 3.

While I haven’t been caught up on the series, I will say the effort put in is pretty commendable. This is especially evident with the upgraded animation. Instead of the usual Flash animation in the show, they’re using Toon Boom Harmony (the same animation software used for The Princess and [...]

Spirit Riding Free | OFFICIAL TRAILER

      Not Impressed

A full 15 years after the release of Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, DreamWorks Animation has decided to do the unthinkable. Revive it as a Netflix series called Spirit Riding Free. A trailer of the series has been released, but be warned: This isn't Spirit as we know it...

From what we see here, this series takes on a completely different turn from the Oscar-nominated movie. It is presented in cheap CGI instead than the beautiful 2D "tradigital" animation, there is no Matt Damon narration, and Spirit himself isn't even the focus of the show. Instead, we look into [...]
