Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie
[DreamWorks Animation]

Tra-la-laaaaaa! I hear-by welcome you all to this weeks Weekly News, the section where I talk about the latest animation news! This week we’ll look into two new DreamWorks trailers, those being The Boss Baby and Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, plus we look at the soundtrack of DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp getting a CD release!

The Boss Baby Trailer #2 - A Tale NOT As Old As Time

DreamWorks Animation’s newest comedy The Boss Baby is only days away from release. The studio has released a new trailer in front of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast remake. No shock, they mocked their arch rival yet again, with the Boss Baby himself (voiced by Alec Baldwin) messing around with Lumière and Cogsworth toys.

Aside from that, the new trailer features old and new clips from the movie. The movie doesn’t really seem that appealing in my eyes, but for those interested, The Boss Baby will be in cinemas on March 31.

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie | Trailer #1

Now it’s time to look into DreamWorks’ more-promising movie of this year, and as a big fan of the books myself, this is something I’m really excited about. Move aside Avengers and Justice League, becuase here is the first trailer of Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie!

For those unfamiliar with the source material, George Beard (Kevin Hart of The Secret Life of Pets) and Harold Hutchins (Thomas Middleditch of the 2011 Beavis and Butthead revival) are best friends of Jerome Horwitz Elementary School, who regularly create comics and pull pranks. When their mean Principle Mr. Krupp (Ed Helms of The Lorax) threatens to seperate them, the two hypnotise him into their comic book creation Captain Underpants.

The big-screen version of Dav Pilkey’s book series has been directed by David Soren (Turbo) and written by Nicolas Stoller (Storks). Interesting enough, this is the first film in which DreamWorks has outsourced the animation. Instead, it has been done by Mikros Image Canada, who are known for the animation of Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods, Mune: Guardian of the Moon, and The Little Prince.

Watching this trailer was a nostalgic blast for me. From the looks of things, both the writing and visuals are very faithful to Dav Pilkey’s works. It’s like a childhood dream come true knowing that a Captain Underpants movie actually exists so I’m defiantly getting my ticket when this comes out!

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie will fly into cinemas on June 2. This will be the final DreamWorks Animation film to be distributed by 20th Century Fox before new owner Universal Pictures takes over future releases.

DuckTales the Movie soundtrack now on CD

Well bless my bagpipes! It seems like we can now obtain a new piece of DuckTales treasure! Nearly 27 years after the release of Ducktales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp, the film’s soundtrack is has been released as a limited Intrada Special Collection CD!

DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Recorded in June 1990 at Evergreen Studios, Burbank, the film’s score was composed, orchestrated, and conducted by David Newman, who would later provide the music for Anastasia and the first Ice Age movie. Newman considers DuckTales the Movie to be among his favourite composition projects by saying it’s “Like a dream experience for me.” since he was given a lot of creative freedom.

The 22-track album is now available to purchase on Intrada here. A big thanks to Twitter user @ker_fuffle for sharing this with us!

Well that concludes another round of Weekly News! Leave your thoughts in the comments, and see you next time!

This Captain Underpants movie looks awesome! I love how it uses 3D animation that still keeps to the spirit of the 2D cartoons too. However, I'm on the fence about casting Kevin Hart as George.
