WN 19: Cats Don’t Dance, Spark, Trolls 2, DuckTa

Written by Karlamon :

Hello, Animation Source! Once again I apologise for the late Weekly News, because studies and illness have gotten in the way. But finally, I have plenty of news for report on! This will include Cats Don’t Dance’s screening on the TCL Chinese Theatres, the announcement of Trolls 2, and new previews for Spark: A Space Tail, the DuckTales reboot, and Tangled: Before Ever After.

Cats Don’t Dance to screen at the TCL Chinese Theatres

Just in time for the 20th anniversary, the Warner Bros. cult classic Cats Don’t Dance is coming back to the big screen exclusively at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood Boulevard, California!

Webmaster Steet informed me he was contacted by Levi Tinker, the General Manager of the TCL Chinese Theatre, who came across Cats Don’t Dance Source while researching the movie as part of the “Starring The Chinese Theatre” film series. They are planning to screen the movie at the Chinese 6 Theatres on April 23 at 10am!

Seems like a great opportunity for the movie to gain the love and attention it deserves. So if you’re in the Hollywood area, don’t miss your chance for the rare occasion to experience Cats Don’t Dance on the big screen!

Spark: A Space Tail - Official Trailer

From the studio that brought you The Nut Job comes their new sci-fi adventure Spark: A Space Tail. Open Road Films and ToonBox Entertainment have finally released the first trailer just over one month before the movie’s wide release, which is rare and rather risky for something like this.

The story follows Spark the teenage monkey (Jace Norman) and his friends who team up to take back Planet Mana after it got invaded by General Zhong (Alan C. Peterson). The Aaron Woodley-directed film first made it’s premiere at the Toronto Animation Arts Festival International, and will be out in theatres on April 14.

From the trailer, it seems like a mix of Space Chimps and Ratchet & Clank with obvious one-liners, though I will admit the world-building is quiet creative. We’ll just wait and see if the movie ends up good when it releases.

Trolls 2 is green-lit for April 2020

DreamWorks’ newest musical Trolls was a big hit when it came out, especially with the soundtrack, the merchandise, and the Oscar-nominated song “Can’t Stop the Feeling!”. So much so, that DreamWorks is confident that it’s their next big franchise by green-lighting a sequel.

[DreamWorks Animation]

Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation have announced that Trolls 2 has been fast-tracked for an April 10, 2020 release. Little is currently known about the sequel, but there is confirmation that Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake will return to reprise Poppy and Branch respectively.

DuckTales First Look

Ducktales, woo-oo!

Thats right folks, the classic Disney cartoon from the 80s DuckTales is getting a reboot! Disney has given us our first look at the reimagining of Scrooge McDuck’s treasure hunting adventures with Huey, Dewey and Louie.

Along with an animation style that’s more reminiscent to the original comics, David Tennant (best known for playing the Tenth Doctor in Doctor Who) gets passed the torch from the late Alan Young as the new voice of Scrooge McDuck.

While I have not seen the original DuckTales series, I gotta say the first look at this reboot has gotten me rather interested in checking it out, and that theme is awesomely catchy as always! If you’re keen on the brand-new adventure, Disney XD will begin airing the series sometime this summer.

Bonus story: The First 5 Minutes | Tangled Before Ever After

Tangled: Before Ever After’s premiere is approached fast. So to hype us more for the feature-length Tangled TV pilot, Disney have given us a preview of the first five minutes! By the looks of things, this seems like a very promising comeback of Rapunzel and Eugene!

For those excited, Tangled: Before Ever After will premiere on Disney Channel on Friday, March 10 at 8pm for the United States, and Friday, March 24 at 7pm for Canada.

Well that wraps up the news. However, I can no longer guarantee Sunday updates due to my busy schedule. While I still aim to provide some news once per week, they’ll be up when ready. Give your thoughts in the comments, and I’ll see ya next time!

No way O.O That's amazing! =o Can't believe it! That's so great *o*! I wish I could see it on big screen too, it's definitely my childhood movie!

Spark has a little kind of Wall-E atmosphere in the BG but I doubt it will be as interesting (at least, it doesn't get my attention enough to watch it x)). It seems like they're trying to make a "star wars animated movie" as the movies are currently sucessfull.
I'm kind of surprised for Trolls .o I saw the movie recently and though it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, it wasn't great enough for a sequel x) I'm not sure it will be as successful, we'll see.

Ducktales sounds great (and is really appreciated in the Disney universe as what I've seen), but I'm especially in LOVE with TANGLED *o*!! AAAAH can't believe it! She's just so cute with her short hair and OMG I LOVE the design of the series, the style is beautiful, it's just like a concept art coming to life, and the animation is great, far better than recent Disney's series I've seen. Well, I just can't wait (to be king *ahem*) to see it!

Thanks for sharing the news Karl, there are really good movies coming on =D

The ONLY time I ever heard of Cats Don't Dance before joining AS were a series of commercials for a TV appearance on Cartoon Network back in the mid 2000s. And even as a kid I thought it looked dumb. If an unknown box office flop like that movie can get a re-release in theaters, why can't Balto!? :icon310: Steet, if you're reading this, maybe this would be something to pitch to Levi Tinker if the Cats Don't Dance screening is successful?

I've never personally seen the original DuckTales, I'll have to look into the new series.
