The Angry Birds Movie gets a teaser!

Written by Karlamon :

Whether you like it or not, there’s no denying that the simple, yet popular video game franchise Angry Birds has stamped itself as a global phenomena in recent pop culture. So much so that out of all things, an animated feature was put into the works by Rovio and Sony Pictures Imageworks. While the May 20, 2016 release date is still a while away, a surprisingly hilarious teaser trailer of The Angry Birds Movie has now been released.

The origin story of the crazy battle between the flightless birds and the green pigs will be distributed by Columbia Pictures, and features the voices of Jason Sudeikis (Epic), Josh Gad (Frozen), Bill Hader (Inside Out), Danny McBride (Despicable Me), Maya Rudolph (Big Hero 6), and Peter Dinklage (Ice Age 4). The movie is being directed by Disney animator Clay Kaytis and storyboard artist Fergal Reilly, while former Simpsons writer Jon Vitti wrote the script.

Karlamon's thoughts:
With colourful animation, nice designs, and a witty and offbeat tone, I personally think this could be something much better than your typical video game cash grab, and it’s now one of many animated movies I look forward to in 2016. Share your thoughts in the comments.

So it's an island full of flightless birds fighting back when invading pigs steal their eggs? Sounds like Revenge of the Dodos to me.

On a more serious note, I think it looks interesting. I would have thought 2-D animation would be a good call, in keeping with the side-scroller games and the related comics, but I like how they look in CGI.

I realize that, but I didn't know Steet had asked for Karla to post this kind of content until he told me. I assumed that Karla was just posting this content because he wanted to, which I felt (and still do to an extent) was better suited for the forums. But considering that he's doing what Steet asked of him, that's a different matter.

It's Animation Source and any kind of interesting animation news are good for the main page.

Anyway, I was very skeptical when I saw Angry Birds are getting a movie, but after watching the trailer, I think it may not be that bad, I actually liked it more than Zootopia's idea.

The animation looks good so far, and the kids would be loving the movie. I received the news concerning the movie during an activity we had with Rovio at the university.

Just to be honest, I think these kinds of news articles would be better suited for forum topics. I know this is "Animation Source", a site dedicated to animated films, but I've always felt that the news articles should pertain to the site or relate to a film of an existing site.

I had a short lived interest for Angry Birds when I first got a smartphone in 2013, but I quickly became bored of it after awhile. It's an okay game to play if you want to pass time, but I think it should be left at being a game. But at least Angry Birds has more of a storyline (though it still makes for a weak movie) to work with than this emoji (which are just popular internet emoticons) film does...

Anyway, this isn't something that would interest me. And from watching the trailer, it seems they're trying too hard to be funny. And while the title is clearly "Angry Birds", it seems they're turning these characters into birds that have anger issues. I never went too deeply into the fandom when I was playing the game, but I don't recall this being the case. They only seemed angered when their eggs were stolen by the pigs.

I know Angry Birds is popular with a lot of age groups, but I would imagine this would appeal more to kids and (censored) fans than anyone else.

O' Cap'n My Cap'n!
Nothing against you or the fans of this "phenomenon" (and I cannot deny that they've marketed the whole Angry Birds things out the ying-yang, and managed to do, with video games, an animated TV show, clothing and other tchotchkes, what other corporate owners of entertainment properties have done), but I'm one of those who doesn't have any interest in Angry Birds. I don't hate it, I don't like it...it doesn't even register as remotely interesting on my radar. I've seen all the stuff in stores and on television, but it just doesn't register for me. Not in the least.

I never watched the show, and never had even the remotest desire to. And while I did watch this trailer, I just personally didn't find it all that funny. But I acknowledge that this is simply my opinion. I know there are people who love it (and who may finding this movie to be funny). I don't get it, but I acknowledge it. I just won't ever be one of them.
