It seems the frequency of animated films is becoming more common. Box Office Mojo has updated their release schedule with updated and brand-new release dates for upcoming animated films.

First of all, let's look at rescheduled release dates for films we already knew about. The first one is "Phineas and Ferb", the theatrical film based off the TV show of the same name. What little is known about the film is that it's actually NOT animated--not entirely. Its format is described as "similar to Who Framed Roger Rabbit". The film will be released in 3D (and 2D as well, don't worry) in 2014; it has been bumped to let Thor: The Dark World have its original release date.

The other three films to be given new release dates....haven't. The films "Santaprentice". "Leo the Lion" and "The Trick or Treaters" have had their original release dates scrapped and instead are simply advertised as being released in 2013. While it is likely this is because they will take longer than expected to make, it's more likely that they're being moved to new release dates so that films like Star Trek Into Darkness and Iron Man 3 will have no competition at the box office. (Film studios do this all the time; it's how they make money.)

NEW films that have been announced may surprise you. The first one is an untitled film about Laika, the first dog in space. As the real-life dog died on her mission, I don't think the film will be too kid-friendly. It has a release date of September 26, 2014.

The next film is an untitled Peanuts film. Yes, Peanuts as in Charlie Brown and Snoopy. While there have been several television series and film-length specials, there has never been a theatrical Peanuts film before, so we can definitely expect some good stuff from it when it comes out. (Currently slated for Thanksgiving, 2015)

The last two films announced are a new untitled Pixar film, and an untitled Disney animated film. At this point, nothing is known about either, except that the Disney film will be released Thanksgiving 2014, and the Pixar film Thanksgiving 2015. (The Pixar film will not be the film that takes you inside the human brain; that film releases 2014.) Since Disney usually does fairy tales - or at least adaptations of well-known stories - we should expect to see what the film will be soon enough. (Would King of the Elves be out of the picture?)

And don't forget about the rest of the films releasing this year. There's only three left, actually: Wreck-it Ralph, Pokemon: Kyurem vs. The Sword of Justice, and Rise of the Guardians. With only three left, make sure to make some time to watch them!
