Dragon's Lair : The Movie Kickstarter by Don Bluth

Written by steet :

Don Bluth & Gary Goldman, the two famous creators of cult animated films like The Secret of NIMH and All Dogs Go To Heaven are coming back with a Kickstarter!

They aim at creating a movie adapted from the Dragon's Lair video games (which were already like animated films) And for this, they need $550 000!

NB : If you're willing to contribute, don't forget my very own Kickstarter too! :p https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/983902887/demetrios

How ironic is it that we're getting off the point right after I clarified the point I was driving at?

I really don't get that hung up about marketing strategies, D. So long as it doesn't do any REAL harm. As far as I can see, unless someone is waaaaaay too hypersensitive, there should be no reason for the images in a video game to get anyone's undergarments all twisted up in knots.

For the sake of clarity I'll point out that the context there was "never mind that it looks cringe-inducingly slinky," meaning that wasn't my main point. Though to be fair, it's still on the list, and you're right; they probably were trying to use (censored) appeal for marketing - which, in my opinion, is an insult to both sexes, but I'll save that rant for my vlog.

Ah. lol Well, you did make a reference to the "cringe-inducingly slinky" nature of it.

But it's not terribly important in the grand scheme. I am sure they were going, in a subtle way, for attracting teenaged guys to the game by making Daphne as alluring as possible...for an animated video game character. After all, the old adage of how (censored) sells will always be there.

I was arguing from an artistic viewpoint, but your point is well-stated.

LOL Remember, DT, it's a fantasy video game, not an historical documentary. And you have to consider the times, too. In the mid 1980s, American culture was FAR less uppity and hypersensitive about, for instance, how Princess Daphne is clothed in the game (in terms of the alluring nature of the garb anyway). Or how she is a damsel in distress for the heroic, heterosexual male knight, Dirk The Daring. (And while she's clearly a damsel in distress, she's no airhead. It's Daphne who has to instruct Dirk, in the climax of the game, how to defeat the dragon. So she's got smarts, even if she has a bimbo-ish voice. lol Which, quite frankly, adds to the humorous nature of her character. Because, when it comes right down to it, the game is supposed to be mildly comedic.)

Not that there weren't strong female characters in various media back then. And feminism was alive back then too. But I don't think that Don Bluth and Gary Goldman were walking around on pins and needles worried either about historical accuracy or feminist issues. And kudos to them for not being so uptight about it. They created a great video game, with entertaining characters.

Sounds interesting. I'll see if I can check out those videos, to be sure, though this may not be the best time for it.

Also, I have to say that Princess Daphne's dress just doesn't look right. Never mind that it looks cringe-inducingly slinky; it just doesn't look medieval, even when I look past that. I hope they do something about that if this pans out.
