This piece of news came about in an obscure way. The previously-announced Pixar film involving dinosaurs has had its release date replaced with, you guessed it, The Snow Queen. However, there's a new piece of information emerging: The film is now entitled Frozen.
This practice of changing movie names is not new to Disney; before Tangled was released, it was advertised and produced under the name Rapunzel. The idea behind this is to make it clear that these films are aimed more toward families and both genders, rather than kids--specifically, little girls.
This film has been in the works on and off for years, but it's good to see that Disney finally has a release date set: November 27, 2013. The Pixar film on dinosaurs is still in production, but is now in need of a new release date.

I hated that they did this with Tangled, and it's happening again. Why
did I hate it? A rubbish trailer for a great movie that made me think
it was going to be a terrible film! Hmph. I don't think the change
will do the same for this movie that it did for Tangled. |

This is just my opinion, but I loathe CG with a passion. At first I
was excited that Disney resurrected the Snow Queen, but after the
first posted comment, I am not sure I want to see the plasticky shiny
eyesore of typical CG. tangled looked OK, but I wish it had been done
in traditional animation. |

Even though it will be CGI, Frozen still looks like a really good
movie to go see. And I'm glad they're continuing production on it  |

It's not 2D, it's CGI. The big success of Tangled and only average one
of Princess & The Frog convinced them they don't need to make 2D
(again) Unfortunately. It was confirmed on the animation blog I visit regularly, and which was never wrong. (they're also the only one which announced the end of Universal Animation Studios for direct-to-video sequels) To be honest, I'm also convinced the name and marketing change was what made Tangled successful. This broke the "only for little girls" image they're carrying and which Princess & The Frog suffered heavily from. It's such a shame this marketing change didn't happen when they did Princess & The Frog, or the story could have been entirely different. Well, the re-release of Lion King was very successful too, so at least we'll still see some 2D animation in theaters, even if they are not new films... |
