Gohei is a hunter and a bearhound trainer. He lost his dog Shiro after dragging Akakabuto down a cliff. Akakabuto scarred Gohei's face and in return he shot Akakabuto in the right eye, damaging his nervous system causing him to grow to a huge size. Riki is his next bearhound, son of Shiro. One day he sets off with Riki to hunt Akakabuto, they fall down a crevice and are stuck for a week. Takeda Gohei cuts off his wounded leg from Akakabuto's attack. He tries to feed Riki his flesh so he can escape into town with enough strength.
After the assumed death of Riki, Takeda Gohei takes Gin from his mother and trains him with brutal techniques so he can become a strong bearhound. Gin learns quickly but he isn't able to fight alongside Gohei's side as he is bed ridden for months to rest from his injuries.
In the final battle, injured Smith leads Gohei to the scene. He shoots Akakabuto with his rifle causing him to fall and everyone thinks he is dead. He sees as Riki is killed by Akakabuto when he gets up again. Takeda Gohei saw his poor Riki get killed a second time by Akakabuto.
