Post subject:  Roleplayers, Come Chat!!!

Here is a topic for the roleplayers of AS to connect as a community. We've gone through a lot of changes over the past couple of years and lost a big part of our community, but although we are smaller now, there's no reason we can't keep the rp boards as active as ever!

Every so often a will post another discussion question for any roleplayer to answer. Feel free to answer previous question as well! I really hope that this allows all of us to just talk and get to know each other, so don't hesitate to post a response to someone else's answers. Also, I will let discussions get a little off topic, so don't ever be afraid to say anything here!

The Questions

1. Who inspired you to roleplay/ influenced your roleplaying/ helped you the most when you first started roleplaying on AS?

2. What was the first roleplay you ever joined?

3. What was the first roleplay you ever created?

4. What is your favorite roleplay and why?

5. Do you prefer open or private roleplays?

More questions to come, so check back often! I will answer these questions myself at a later time when I'm not so busy. Also, feel free to post any suggestions you have to get the rp boards back on their feet or if you have a new roleplay you can always advertise here! Add your own questions! Ask for help if your stuck on a plot or character or post! I'm really giving you guys free reign here, so have at it! :D

Post subject:  Re: Roleplayers, Come Chat!!!

1. Who inspired you to roleplay/ influenced your roleplaying/ helped you the most when you first started roleplaying on AS?
Actually, my older brother was the first person who inspired me to RP along some artists on deviantART (since I was a member of that website about a year before joining AS). No one really helped me; I kind of learned by myself from watching others RP and reading tips on how to improve my role play posts.

2. What was the first roleplay you ever joined?
The first role play I ever joined was titled 'Sing Into the Night', but we never got any actual RP posts in, just a few bios >.<

3. What was the first roleplay you ever created?
My first RP I ever created was titled 'Before Daylight, After Sunset'.

4. What is your favorite roleplay and why?
My favorite RP was 'On the Run'. The RP was really my first time ever getting to actually post and interact with the other members' characters, and the plot was wonderful and very fun to act out.

5. Do you prefer open or private roleplays?
I prefer open RPs to private ones because, with open role plays, there are a ton of people with different experiences in RPing who join and, in my opinion, the more minds you bring into a RP, the more fun you'll have.

Post subject:  Re: Roleplayers, Come Chat!!!

Interesting topic, Rose! :3
I'll try answering these to the best of my abilities but since I was here since 2008... xD

1. Who inspired you to roleplay/ influenced your roleplaying/ helped you the most when you first started roleplaying on AS?
Well, this is a toughie. I don't remember being particularly influenced when I first started, but much later I was influenced a lot by Windancer, and before that, Faye, who was an RP moderator at the time.

2. What was the first roleplay you ever joined?
According to my 'view my posts', the first one I joined that actually started was Sister Bound By Blood. It's kinda old and the first posts got deleted but |D

3. What was the first roleplay you ever created?
The first one I created is apparently The Supernatural, but that only went as far as a few posts. The next earliest one would probably be A New Thirst.

4. What is your favorite roleplay and why?
Wow, what a tough question! Well my oldest favorite was Changed & Remade. I've also loved to no end Pack House and Hide & Seek, though I can't find muse to post for the latter. 3:

5. Do you prefer open or private roleplays?
These days I prefer private or 'invite only' ones, where you know the people you are roleplaying with are good writers or rpers, cause otherwise... well, it's kinda like asking for a wild card. Most people ignore the rules and it gets extremely irritating. Most open roleplays I've been in have died, whereas the private ones - for the most part - are still ongoing.

Lol looking at my old roleplays embarrasses me. xD

Post subject:  Re: Roleplayers, Come Chat!!!

Hey, guys! 8D Luns here, and roleplaying is a definite hobby of mine. haha I can never escape it.

1. Who inspired you to roleplay/ influenced your roleplaying/ helped you the most when you first started roleplaying on AS?
Hmmm, well, I can't really answer the AS part because I really just join roleplays if I think I will enjoy them and am bored. :v Yeah, pretty lame. However, I can say the person who inspired me to roleplay was my best friend, who kind of dragged me into it. I very much enjoy it though.

2. What was the first roleplay you ever joined?
On AS? According to year, Hayze: The Canine Games RP. Never officially given an "ACCEPTED" though.
After that would be... I Am The Future, which I had to drop out of due to being overworked.

3. What was the first roleplay you ever created?
I can't say. It was a long time ago with my best friend who I still RP with today. I don't remember.
I haven't created an RP on AS though.

4. What is your favorite roleplay and why?
Hmm, my friend and I don't really title our roleplays, but I guess my favorite would have to be... gosh. I can't really decide. They're all good, and it's definitely easy for us to display strong emotion through our roleplaying. We've both ended up in tears. Not only that, we have actually finished the RPs and even went back and re-played a certain part we either didn't like or thought could be better.

5. Do you prefer open or private roleplays?
I don't mind either, really, but I probably do prefer private roleplays. It leaves less room for random people to join, and I'm not one to really just explore away from a small group of mine.

Hmmm, some questions for roleplayers.

1.) Have you joined any large RPs [such as forums [not to be mistaken with topics, I mean like Proboards forums] or dA RPs?]? If so, which ones?

2.) Have you ever wanted to join a large RP?

3.) Do you have anything against RP groups or large RPs?

4.) For how long have you been RPing?

5.) Are you against RPing with OCs if you are playing as a Canon?

6.) Have you ever left the RPing community at one point?

To answer my own questions.
1. Yes, I have. Solus, Monstalia, Tarot Nouveau, and Ad Libitum. I am currently pending on Sengoku-Legends, as applications are sorted and chosen on January 25.
I also have a Tumblr RP account. c: Totally fun.

2. Yes, but there were always doubts and maybe some problems creating a character for an RP.

3. It's a little thing, but yes. Every single RP group I have joined just... died. It made me sad because I actually enjoyed my partners; I still talk with them and RP with them. However, these RPs had such great stories, and it would have been nice to... you know, finish the RP. That's kind of why I prefer to be an Indie-RPer.
4. Hm, 9 years.
5. Not at all. c:
6. Yes, I didn't have the drive to do it. However, I felt like something was missing, so I started RPing again and was like "I CAN NEVER LEAVE" because asdfghjkl all the people I've met are awesome.

Post subject:  Re: Roleplayers, Come Chat!!!

Moki - You think your embarrassed, I hate seeing the front page of the Pack House rp. Thats before I discovered tinypic but still insisted on putting pictures everywhere with iaza. Ugh. that whole first post is a giant mess! But the rping was fun! If I remember correctly, that was with Bree and Ashton. I enjoyed those two. :)

To answer my own questions (and LuckyLunny's. Thanks for adding more questions!)

Who inspired you to roleplay/ influenced your roleplaying/ helped you the most when you first started roleplaying on AS?

I'd have to say that the two people who really inspired me to get involved in roleplaying were AvatarCat and WolfCall, who joined my very first rp and sort of showed me the ropes. LunaWolfSpirit influenced how I set up my roleplays, even though I don't think I ever joined any of her rps; she was advanced when I was just a beginner, though I'd love to rp with her now. I think Snowrunner567 influenced by rping the most since her rp Fangs of Jade and Ivory was one of the first semi-advanced rps I had joined and started my werewolf obsession. This is also the rp that birth Luna and Garret/Griffin. I'd also have to give some credit to Godzillawolf who did a series of private rps with me and helped me learn how to handle lots of characters in one story. (Which came in handy later own *cough*HideAndSeek*cough*)

What was the first roleplay you ever joined?

According to my posts, it was Wandering Through the Mountains. I'm not sure if that is right since I do remember joining a Balto rp when I was really new as Dusty but the rp never got started, so maybe some of the really old ones got deleted? Uh oh... *runs to go save some old rps in word documents*

What was the first roleplay you ever created?

War of Destiny. Yeah, bring on the cliche plot! Haha, this rp holds a big piece of my heart despite the one line posts and predictable good vs evil plot line. Still, WolfCall, AvatarCat, and I had a great time with this while it lasted.

What is your favorite roleplay and why?

No! You can't make me choose!

Well, I'll name a couple. Besides the three I already linked above, which I do love, I have to agree with Moki that Hide and Seek and Pack House (the version she linked, man, I must have re-done that roleplay at least three times) are some of the best. I also love my current rp The Lost Weekend which we just revived! Yay! I am so excited to continue this story!

I also loved The New Hunt (Rose and Griffin love <3) and The Thriller (even more Rose and Griffin, haha, those two were together a lot, Moki! haha) and The Crystal Stone (Rose and Jake this time, haha, and plus Dani and Ar).

Do you prefer open or private roleplays?

I think private rps. I really enjoyed open roleplays back in the glory days (AKA about three years ago), but like everyone else said, it's usually better when you can choose who your rping with.

Have you joined any large RPs [such as forums [not to be mistaken with topics, I mean like Proboards forums] or dA RPs?]? If so, which ones?

No, but I have browsed through some of them. I just don't think I'd be able to keep up with a large scale rp like that. (This is all considering that I'm thinking about the same thing that you are talking about...)

Have you ever wanted to join a large RP?

I've thought about it, but I prefer my rps on AS. I just can't stay away from you guys! :)

Do you have anything against RP groups or large RPs?

No, not at all! If you can do something like that, congrates! I just can't deal with so many people and so many things going on at once. I get lost very easily. Maybe if I joined one at the very start before things have really got going, I would be able to keep up with it more.

For how long have you been RPing?

Almost five years since War of Destiny. Man, I feel old!

Are you against RPing with OCs if you are playing as a Canon?

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Like, if you are playing in a canon world (ie. Balto, Lion King, Harry Potter, ect...) and brining in OCs? If so, then, no, of course not! I love OCs! I think you have to have some OCs when doing a Canon roleplay (I call it Fan Roleplaying myself) in order to bring something new to the story, or else it gets boring quickly.

Have you ever left the RPing community at one point?

I've been trying to lately actually. I have so much stuff to do being in college and concentrating on my own fiction writing (plus my new obsession with Harry Potter fanfictions, don't get me started on that) that I don't have time to anymore. But I can't stay away! I just started three new rps.... Oy vey.

NEW QUESTION: What are some of your favorite characters that you use over and over gain?

Where do I begin?

As I mentioned before, Luna has been a companion of mine for a very long time. She really came into character during Hide and Seek, but she had been around for ages. I've sort of traded her for Rose recently, though, who isn't quite as entertaining as Luna (that little trouble maker) but she works better for human roleplays while Luna is almost always a werewolf. (And she just belongs with Moki's Zac. I can't put her with anyone else!)

My original Rose has gone through many name changes, but she's mostly Marie in more recent rps. She my sweetheart when Luna gets on my nerves, haha.

Then there's Griffin/Garret/Rafe/Sam. Another one who goes with many names changes, haha. He's my big brother character with a short temper but a big heart.

My newest character, Vanessa, has to be one of the most interesting character. I love her with Griffin in The Lost Weekend, but I am trying her out in some other rps as well. She's very fiery and unpredictable that I just love thinking up something crazy and irrational for her to do.

Okay, I'm going to stop there before I ramble on even more....

@Rose: Aw, omg I miss Griffin and Rose<3 those rps were awesome!

1.) Have you joined any large RPs [such as forums [not to be mistaken with topics, I mean like Proboards forums] or dA RPs?]? If so, which ones?

I actually recently joined one on dA called 'Their Dark Eden'. To be honest, I'm not quite sure how it all works, but I got accepted so it should be interesting. xD

2.) Have you ever wanted to join a large RP?
No, they always seemed so daunting to me. But I guess this time I couldn't help it and decided 'What the heck!'

3.) Do you have anything against RP groups or large RPs?
Nope, none at all. I've just been to afraid to join one myself until recently.

4.) For how long have you been RPing?
About five years now, I'd believe. Since I joined AS pretty much.

5.) Are you against RPing with OCs if you are playing as a Canon?
Well, as long as all the canons are fulfilled it doesn't bother me, but roleplays where people play OCs rather than filling in the required canon roles do bother me (If that's what you meant).

6.) Have you ever left the RPing community at one point?
Eh, I've had my off and on moments where I don't reply or post because of loss of inspiration. AS just isn't the same for me anymore to be in as many RPs as I used to, but I'll always be in at least one.

-What are some of your favorite characters that you use over and over again?

Woot, this is a really interesting question! Well way back, I used to use Griffin a lot. Then instead of him I started using Ashton (and still use him constantly to this day, lol). Both were usually almost always vampires. But Ashton became a lot more detailed and was sort of a more in-depth and 'dark' version of Griffin. Rose, you know how much I use Ashton now LOL. I just really love his personality.

I also constantly use Zac. He's almost always a werewolf, though on occasion I have used him as a human. Zac's personality is just so much fun to rp, especially since it's a huge contrast to Ashton's.

John 'Slash' is another one I've used a lot, though he's quite recent in comparison to Ashton and Zac. John is my main human, though I have used him for one roleplay or another where he's something supernatural (like for one I'm in with Rose, he's a werewolf). His personality is kinda sorta serious, but it's cool to rp different personalities so I don't get bored haha.

As for females, I often use Carrie and Isa. Carrie's usually a rebel, while Isa is really sweet and innocent. I'm not going to lie. Rping with Isa is a bit difficult because of her innocence and kindness, so she doesn't have too much depth besides that, but... she's cute to rp all the same. Both are usually human, though Isa is often a vampire too. If I'm not mistaken I often use Carrie (or at least have once before) when it comes to delinquent rps.

Gosh, this just made me realize how often I re-use characters. LOL.

Post subject:  Re: Roleplayers, Come Chat!!!

Yaaay! A new roleplaying topic by Rose! ^_^ *"borrows" questions from an above post*

1. Who inspired you to roleplay/ influenced your roleplaying/ helped you the most when you first started roleplaying on AS?

Hmmm...well, I always liked stories, so out of boredom about three or four years ago I tried my hand at creating my own in my spare time. Around that same time, I noticed one of my friends on AS, and she talked me into creating an account. Ironically, I've never roleplayed with her before. As far as who helped me the most when I first started, that would be Windancer. Windancer has on several accounts graciously answered questions I've had about roleplaying and how the site works via PMs and OOCs, and simply gave me an opportunity to practice by joining my first roleplay and helping me keep it alive. Other infuential members have been LunaWolfSpirit and Godzillawolf by simply having had the patience to roleplay with me when I was first starting out.

2. What was the first roleplay you ever joined?

If I remember correctly, that was the "The Four Winds War" by Kittynator...unfortunately, it never started. As far as what was the first roleplay that actually did, that was either "Warriors: Rise of New Fire" by LunaWolfSpirit or "Super Smash Brothers: Rise of the Dark Emperor" by Godzillawolf (both eventually turned into private roleplays).

3. What was the first roleplay you ever created?

Heheheh...that would be "The Legend of Kyathro". It originally didn't have much of a plot line, and two almost nonexistent villains. Now that I look back on it, it was more so the random series of unfortunate events and the "survival mode" we threw the characters into that probably gave it any drive. Even though I posted it under the "Open" section, the poor thing never had more than four members active at a time, averaging at three overall. So, I guess technically it kinda turned into a "goes and comes" "private" roleplay before it seemingly bit the dust(?)

4. What is your favorite roleplay and why?

Oh dear...I'm not preening my own feathers, I swear! Okay, so for the longest time, it was "The Legend of Kyathro", but now that's been transplanted to its counterpart and remake "Legends of Kyathro" that I'm currently working on with Windancer. What can I say? Kyathro's definitely my baby.

A close second is Black Rose's "Just Another Fairytale". I absolutely loved the plot and the chance to work with several different characters with vastly different personalities. Hidden text : click to show

5. Do you prefer open or private roleplays?

Erm...I haven't really joined very many open roleplays, most of which either died, died early on, nearly died and were remade for the private section (but never/haven't been completed/completed yet), or never started at all. So...I guess I really can't be a good judge of that, though joining an open roleplay with more than three people posting that lasts at least over five pages sounds like loads of fun and is definitely on my "AS bucket list" (along with either joining/creating a living fan roleplay).

6. For how long have you been RPing?

Judging by my posting date for the original Kyathro, apparently since Aug. 11, 2010...so about 3 1/2, almost 4 years?

7. Are you against RPing with OCs if you are playing as a Canon?

Well, here I really don't have much room to talk, but in general, no. My personal opinion is, depending on how long after the Canon the RP is based, a healthy mix of both original and OCs. However, an RP (or any other plot idea for other forms of creative writing) that is entirely or mostly OCs automatically raise mental red flags that very rarely lower.

8. What are some of your favorite characters that you use over and over again?

Ahaha...truthfully, not really. Most of my pre-created characters belong to my own make-believe universe that Kyathro is a part of (yup, roleplaying's definitely somewhat of a beta for me) and therefore aren't compatible with the majority of the roleplays on AS, meaning that I literally tailor-create each character for each roleplay in response to how I'd imagine an individual hypothetically surviving in that particular universe.

Now, to backtrack somewhat, Lyllii and Sespyn seem to be exceptions to this rule: both are from my own universe and got dragged over to AS for "experimentation" and further development (meaning, if in ten years you see them on a bookshelf, don't be surprised), and key components of their personalities often worm their way into the creation of my characters for other roleplays. And truthfully, I originally created Lyllii years ago for my own childhood Narnian games.

New Question: What fictional universe(s) do you think most influence you as a child to roleplay today?

Well, I kinda hinted at it already, but I'd say The Chronicles of Narnia book series for me. Runners up are The Legend of Zelda series of video games, Ferngully (the first one with Robin Williams!), and various Disney films (most notably, Beauty and the Beast).

Fictional universes? Hmm, I know my first few with my best friend were Digimon, Wolf's Rain, and Okami...
HMM, BUT THERE WAS ONE MORE, I CAN'T REMEMBER. gosh.

Post subject:  Re: Roleplayers, Come Chat!!!

What fictional universe(s) do you think most influence you as a child to roleplay today?

Hmm, this is a hard one... I guess a lot of the Disney animal movies such as Oliver and Company, Aristocats, and The Fox and the Hound. Other influences are probably Ferngully, Once Upon A Forest, The Swan Princess, Anastasia, Beauty and the Beast, Shiloh, The Lion King, Harry Potter (the first ones that came out when I was a kid), and The Princess Bride. These are all movies I watched multiple times as a kid and loves every time a watched it. They had to have some influences, I guess, haha.

Anaquine, you did inspire me with some new questions. (And I'll have to work on Fairytale! haha)

New Questions! What type of genre/universe do you prefer to roleplay?

I don't think it'll come to any surprise that I love werewolf stories. Did anyone not know that? I like stories that have some adventure and danger but also some chance to slow down for some romance and friendship. Although I love werewolves, I am becoming a fan of super hero type stories. Not sure when this started, but I have a feeling Windancer had something to do with it, haha.

If you do write some original fiction, do any of your characters enter your roleplays? Also, in part with that, are your roleplays influenced by your fiction?

(Anaquine already sort of answered this :) )

I would say, for characters, mostly not, but with rp plots, yes. A lot. Just Another Fairytale, The New Hunt, The Wolf Next Door, Frenemies, Forever Wild Forever Free, The Relation Ship, Not Quite Human, The Nine Pointed Star, Tracking Destiny, and Love As Deadly As Silver are all inspired my novels I am either writing or brain-storming about. I'll admit that some of them are abandoned ideas, but some of them may be on a bookshelf some day, I hope!

Just Another Fairytale is almost completely thought through, and while writing in this universe has helped me greatly figure out how to end the story, I have not taken any names or characters from the rps into the actual story. The New Hunt was originally a novel idea, but after Godzillawolf gave me the idea for humans helping some of the supernatural creatures, Leanna and Dorian were born. Also, because I loved the love story of a human and werewolf, Lela (Leanna's younger sister) and Travis (the vampire that Leanna saves at the beginning of the story) have a very sweet background relationship that while isn't the main focus of the story, is slightly based of Rose and Griffin. (Travis is an absolute sweet-heart though and nothing like Griffin, haha) The Wolf Next Door is based on the first book of Through A Wolf's Eyes serious called The Love Story. The set up very similar, but in the actual story, there are two separate boarding schools and the werewolves enjoy breaking into the gated school grounds, sparking a forbidden romance between human girl Vivian and rugged werewolf Rafe. It's strongly based on Romeo and Juliet and the story is set up to follow the same basic path, but with werewolves! Frenemies is part of a series of books that I have dubbed my tragic comedies since they have a comedic beginning but near the end, a drastic tragedy changes everything. I want say what it is in this book, but in another once called Convince Me, the main character actually dies at the end. The Relation Ship basically as the same plot, though the actual novel is a lot more fleshed out. Same with Not Quite Human (whose novel name is Moonlight and Bloodlust) and Love As Deadly As Silver.

I can't say than any of the novel characters have wandered into my roleplaying. I suppose Luna is very similar to Emily Rose (from Love As Deadly As Silver) though their pasts are completely different and while Luna is untrusting and cautious, Emily is just plain selfish and a bit spoiled. They are both over-dramatic b****es though. Obviously, Evangeline, Rosalinda, and Bridget are all a big part of Another Fairytale, but they are slightly different obviously. I do have a character named Haley (from Heart of a Wolf) though the Haley from my roleplays is sarcastic and free-spirited while the actual character of Haley is rather cautious and naive. Other than that, no, my novel characters stay on my documents while my rp characters stay on-line.

Post subject:  Re: Roleplayers, Come Chat!!!

Glad I could help, Black Rose! And yeah, I kinda already did answer one of those, didn't I? Hidden text : click to show

What type of genre/universe do you prefer to roleplay?

Definitely fantasy...as in the fairies, dragons, and castles kind in an alternate universe (not reality; to me there is a *slight* distinction). Not the biggest fan of supernatural (including ghosts, vampires, and werewolves). Though, another genre I've been curious to try is the whole superhero one (I, like Rose, probably have Windancer to blame for that. ;D) I also think doing a "normal" one with realistic humans and animals would be fun *cues plot bunny stampede*.

Now, onto the genre preference: action/adventure, with healthy dashes of humor, suspense, and/or angst. I haven't really written romance, but then again I generally prefer it (not always) as more of a side plot; too much focus on it as the main plot device I often find irritating.
