I prefer English! I've always hated math. I have always been good at it. not meaning to brag or anything but my teachers always love me and think I'm a genious. so I'm good at all subjects. but I still prefer English.

I prefer English. I've never been good at math. I failed math for my first time last school year pretty much. But the lowest grade I got in English was a C.

It is quite interesting to see the number of people who said that English is the subject they are much better at...especially given the generally very poor quality of writing and even just comments and posting which goes on all over this site (much less other places around the internet). What with an appalling lack of grammatical proficiency, and an even more appalling skill set at proper spelling and punctuation, along with the sickeningly all-too-frequent use of SMS (text) speech in all manner of writing, comments, posts and chat, I must conclude that those who said that they are much better in English than in math must REALLY do absurdley lousy in math! Sad but true. I barely passed math every year but then math just got me. And I don't use SMS talk to much. Only really on aim. On here, I never use SMS. (But my grammar isn't amazing. I'm only going into 7th grade.) XD

I agree with JerseyCaptain. A lot of the grammar is absurd and strange.

However, I've been very good at English for a while now, and my English teacher this past year thought my writing was outstanding and that I should become and author. This doesn't mean I don't make mistakes. If you're human, you have made at least one mistake in the past. I rarely make mistakes, but every now and then I'll make a mistake somewhere. I'm only human.

I'm also very good at math.

In New Jersey, you must take a state test called the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge, or better yet known as the NJASK.

My NJASK scores were rather high. In English I recieved higher than 220/300 and for math 250/300. This means I scored proficient in English, or Language Arts Literacy, and advanced proficient in Mathematics. These scores put me in Accelerated Math, which means I had skipped an entire grade of Math and was learning math above my level.

For Language Arts, my school did not have Accelerated LA, so I went to a normal class of about 30 students of my age group. But if my school did, I wouldn't be in it because I didn't score high enough on NJASK Language Arts Literacy.

Though I don't want to get too off topic, I'll just give you the general idea.

Though I'm good at both subjects, I'd rather write an essay than do constructed response to a Mathematics question.

You're probably thinking I'm insane, but when you can choose which subject you want to become more powerful in, it becomes obvious that I don't want Math to rule my life, though I still want it in my life.

So yes, Language Arts, AKA English, is my better subject and the more appealing subject for me.

In high school, I've always loved English best. When it comes to deciding in school, however, I think it largely depends on your teacher. I had a phenomenal teacher three consecutive years in a row who encouraged me and taught me to think and challenge ideas. Very insightful and very opening.

And let's all face it, we only like math when it get it. Or at least, those of us that have still retained our sanity do. Because it's just nice when everything... clicks together. XD Personally, my major requires me to like math. I did, up until my junior year, maybe even moreso than English. But last year, our math teacher had the Calculus class forced upon her, and she literally had to learn an entire year's worth of calculus over the summer. The result wasn't at all impressive, and grades in there reflected it. Of course people were bound to loose interest. I did, after a while.

...not to mention that after completing a three-inch thick study packet, our final exam was only EIGHT [EFF]ing questions long AND multiple choice [no partial credit].

I'm just saying that personal interests alone are not/should not be the only deciding factor.

Maybe it's because you're just learning?

I always find English more fascinating, personally, and math actually makes me a bit sleepy (maybe it was the teaching method, hm...). And Old English is fun, with words such as ye, thy, and queer. Fun, fun. Well, for me. Math always confuses me with huge numbers, so I'll stick to English for a favorite.
