Tangled tells the story of Rapunzel, the newest Disney princess. The film was released in November, 2010, and has dazzled children and adults with its magical storytelling, memorable character, amazing visuals, and remarkable songs.
Based on the Grimm fairy tale, the cartoon took over five years to produce! Time was utilized to improve the quality of the new motion graphics and invent new software, like that created for Rapunzel's 70 feet of hair.
The story of the cartoon, however, moves away from the original tale, adding a lot of original dreams and magic in true Disney fashion.
The film follows the story of Rapunzel, a young princess kidnapped by Mother Gothel, an old woman greedy and corrupt. Gothel only wants Rapunzel for her magical hair, which allows her to survive her old age. And so she condemns the girl to remain locked up in a tower.
But Rapunzel takes her fate into her own hands when the chance presents itself, in the form of a thief named Flynn Rider! Equipped with a frying pan and her pet chameleon Pascal, Rapunzel is determined to realize her dream, and much more...
No sequels have been announced, but a short film spin-off was released, Tangled Ever After, which tells the story of Rapunzel's marriage!

As the author says, "Among the inspirations I could quote Disney's "Robin Hood", the fables of La Fontaine, "Redwall", "Winnie the Pooh", "The Secret of Nimh", "The Dark Crystal", the paintings of Alan Lee, John Howe, Paul Bonner, John Bauer, and many, many others..."
