Can you confirm that this was made for promotional reasons? Was there more to it?

Yes, that was a promotional piece. I can remember writing the gags for that. A lot of the footage wound up in the title song, cuz we hadn't animated very many episodes at that time. So we used what we had from the promo.

The red box was to show that Baloo was a "delivery guy" and that he will face all kinds of obstacles to get the box delivered. And what's in the box??? The Tale Spin logo. In other words, Baloo is brings the series TO YOU!

I remember deliberating if I should add Kit at the end. I mean here's Baloo with his scarf flapping in the breeze, and I thought, "Where's the breeze coming from?" So I added Kit with a fan!

Oh, yes, I'm sure it was animated at a local studio - cuz we needed it quickly. (But then again.... I can't remember where I parked my car.) JM

Yes, I didn't notice Kit holding a fan at first, but that was a nice addition (even though it wasn't kept in the final logo) Well the ad has animation that has never been seen in any episode. So it could have been produced locally, yes...
