steet :
I was wondering what was behind the fact that many of the characters (Baloo, Kit, Louie...) don't wear pants.
Was it because Baloo wouldn't look the same if we didn't see his big belly? :)
Or to keep some connection with The Jungle Book?
Jymn Magon :
It's just a Disney/animation invention. If a character has thin legs (like Mickey or Goofy or Rebecca) then we put pants on 'em so they don't look naked. If, however, a character has big hips & no legs (Baloo) or a huge but (Donald), then we leave pants off. (It would look silly otherwise.) The funny part is we tend to accept these conventions without thinking. So when Baloo hangs out his laundry to dry, you'll always find a pair of boxer shorts with hearts on 'em.... even though he never wears pants!
We weren't intentionally trying to stay true to Jungle Book. That wasn't the goal.

Yes, Kit had pants in the pitch artwork. I remember an image of him
running with cargo pants on. It's just a lot of pencil mileage for no
good reason. Plus, bears have those stumpy legs. Jymn |

Strangely; I have seen some of the pitch material for the series and
Kit was actually wearing black pants which had these cool pockets on
them. I always thought that the reason behind Kit not wearing pants in
the final build was because the animators couldn't animate them
properly overseas. |

when I was younger , I used to think Donald wore a huge white Diaper
LOL.. ..also, in one short, donald is seen with a towel around his waist.. but he never wears pants.. but in the early days Mickey never wore a shirt.. (unless it was a black shirt ) |
