Hello, Jymn
I was wondering, was Grammy and Gummer from the comic book "The Long Flight Home" was part of your creation or was it the comic book writers'?
Cuz I was kinda hoping that Grammy and Gummer took care of Kit during the first few years on the streets. I know you won't answer questions about Kit's past except that he's never been to an orphanage, but I was just curious and curiosity usually gets the best of me sometimes... As a young bear cub, Kit had to have got sick at some point, like a fever or something, I can't imagine a younger Kit being ill on the streets with no one to care for him.
If you won't answer this directly, could you at least tell me that there was a friend or a trusted adult that took care him when he was sick (which wasn't often, I'm sure, Kit is so healthy but even the healthiest people get sick at some point in their lives)
I'm guessing chickenpox don't exists in the TaleSpin universe, am I right?

I don't know that comic book story, nor who Grammy and Gummer are (tho' it sounds like the writer had a Gummi Bear fixation.)
It's possible Kit crossed their path... but it's hard to say. To me there is the "real, original" Tale Spin universe, and then there's the "spinoff" universe (comics, story books), and then there's the "fanfic" universe (where new characters are created and cross-universe meetings occur like Peter Pan and Cruella DeVille). I like to stick with the original universe, personally. Mainly because all the decisions for the series (the "vision" if you will) was going through one source (Mark and I). I'm not saying this to be snotty or egotistical... I would feel the same about Conan stories only being filtered through Robert E. Howard. I'm glad that Tale Spin has "legs" and it continues to entertain, but that "original" universe came out of a creative team that existed only from 1988-1990 (or whenever). Anything new is an 'add-on'
So back to your question... Did Kit ever meet someone who never existed in the original universe? I seriously doubt it.
Did someone ever take care of Kit in the bad times? Maybe... but a lot of street urchins just had to gut it out alone. Or they would take care of each other ... in a group. Or simply die. (If Tale Spin had run longer, we might have tackled this very topic! Kit's past.)
Chickenpox? Sure, why not! There are worse diseases in a tropical zone than chickenpox!

If you would like to see that comic, it's available on the comics page
: http://www.animationsource.org [...] stom_list/&id_film=9&nump=1201 And I understand that you would prefer to stick to the original universe, after all you're the two original creators! Still, the fans usually want "more" and that's logical when you love something. I hope you don't mind our "Talespin Virtual Season" project In any case, everyone knows they're "add-ons", and we consider them
as such. Actually we usually the word "canon" to define this. |
