steet :
I'll admit that I'm more of a "Baloo & Becky" fan (even if I like ALL the characters pretty much - you did an amazing job on them and they're the best part of the series to me!), so I can't resist asking this.
In the series, there are numerous times when we see Becky breaking her "rough shell" and showing her feelings to Baloo (she cries for him in "Bearly Alive", she admits loving him in "Last horizons", she's jealous in "A Star is torn" etc...)
So I believe it's pretty obvious that Becky consider Baloo as "more than a friend". (even though she most often would want to strangle him instead :) )
But so far (I still have a few episodes left to watch), I haven't spotted a single time where Baloo shows some feelings to her. Sure, he saves her several times, but he does the same for all of his friends. In fact, he always reacts pretty roughly when Becky does open her heart.
So, is the opposite true, does he hide it or is she "just a friend"?

No revelation here... Baloo & Becky were fashioned after Sam & Rebecca from the (then) popular sitcom "Cheers." Baloo loses his business and winds up working for a woman who lacks his knowledge and experience, but who (as his boss) harps on his careless ways. Sound familiar? It was a good dynamic - plus we had the added bonus of the two of them watching over Kit... one the caring Mom and one the careless Dad.
So, yes, there was supposed to be a love/hate relationship with Baloo & Becky. I thought there was pretty much equal evidence that they secretly cared for each other, but maybe it wound up lopsided in Becky's favor. (Like I said, it was hard to oversee so many scripts.) Baloo was a fairly careless character in Jungle Book, so we kept that quality in TS.
Of course, we could never let that relationship come to fruition. (It's a series, folks!) It's what destroyed the Sam/Diane relationship.

Does Kit have feelings for Molly?
Baloo and Rebecca mirrored after Sam and Rebecca.
Kit Cloudkicker's Mom?

Let's face it - sexual tension works... especially when you have to
keep an audience around for 65 episodes. Most kids, however, probably
just saw a lazy bear complaining about his good looking boss. As for "Tales of the Gold Monkey"... yes, I had seen the series and enjoyed it. So it definitely had an influence on me, but I wouldn't say we based TS on that series. It just had a lot of similarities. I imagine if anyone created a tropical setting with an air pilot today, they'd be told they were ripping off Tale Spin. It's just that ideas like this carry certain universal trappings - Water = sea plane. Tropics = laidback characters. Watering hole = something like Rick's Cafe American. Etc. JM |

Despite him saying this, I still believe that if we could peer into
the futures of our Higher for Hire friends, we would see a
relationship bud between Becky and Baloo. I don't just see it as
being similar as Sam/Rebecca from Cheers (which I was all for in that
show as well). I also see it as a Han Solo/Princess Leia relationship
too, but that's just me. Whatever. I consider B&B to be unrealized
canon and nothing anyone will ever say will change my mind about that.

Well, there had been times where Rebecca did flirt with Baloo. Such as in "My Fair Baloo", she said flirtatiously "Please, Baloo, for me?" Sounded like she was flirting with Baloo, just to get him to put on the tuxedo she rented for Baloo for the party they were going to. |

Cheers, well that's a revelation to me (but I don't know that series
though, it hasn't really been aired in France) Some people say it's based on "Tales of the twelve monkeys" (that I don't know either...same reason), is it a bit true? And yes, that was a very good idea, to me these 3 characters are really the heart of the series and are VERY well developed characters I have rarely seen animated characters with the same "depth",
characters who are not stereotypical but realistic and believable. So again, great job ![]() |
