Mr Zaslove or Mr Magon:

Hi :)

can you tell us how it was to combine traditional animation with computer-assisted animation (CGI) in Talespin? I ask this question because I imagine that in those time it  was very different to nowadays. ¿ that they had to do

Thanks

Jymn Magon :

Yes, the airplanes were most definitely rendered in the computer. Mike plotted some really clever flight passes and camera movements, all in the camera. Problem was, the overseas studios couldn't handle what we were giving them. Plus, it was actually easier to just animate the planes by hand... so the computer stuff was dropped.

Well; they used computers for electronic storyboards on a Commodore Amiga; and they use the Amiga computer to to allow the airplanes to scale and rotate in the air for easier and more believable sequences of flight. Otherwise; everything else is hand drawn. I think this question is better answered by Michael Pereza Jr. and Kelly Day since they were responsible for this area.

Ok then. Though it mentioned "help" with animation, but was the plane really rendered in 3D in some scenes? I'm not sure.
If there would be new Talespin series/films nowadays, they would be sure to use CGI though. (as long as it's not used for the characters themselves, and that most backgrounds are still hand painted, I don't mind they use 3D for quick and cost-cutting reasons)

Shout box : steet (10 days) : "Wrong! In the desert." I love Kit's reactions to Baloo in that episode.
