OFFICIAL : Boom Studios ends the Disney line!

Written by steet :

Everyone was pretty much suspecting it, but it's now official...

The Disney Afternoon (and all Disney books, then) books from Boom! Studios are ending in October. It will end with the crossover between Ducktales and Darkwing Duck. Here are the descriptions for the last issues :

Darkwing Duck #17: "(W) Ian Brill (A) James Silvani 'Dangerous Currency,' Part 2. The Darkwing Duck/DuckTales crossover event twenty years in the making picks up from DuckTales #5 here! Whatever happened to Fenton Crackshell, the original Gizmoduck? Darkwing Duck and visiting Duckburg tycoon Scrooge McDuck intend to find out - that is, if they don't disappear themselves! It's the end of an era as KABOOM! says goodbye this month to Disney in a final epic story spanning Darkwing Duck #17, DuckTales #6 and Darkwing Duck #18."

DuckTales #6:"(W) Warren Spector (A) José Massaroli Final Issue! 'Dangerous Currency,' Part 3. The Darkwing Duck/DuckTales crossover event twenty years in the making heats up right here! Following the events of Darkwing Duck #17, Uncle Scrooge and Darkwing Duck discover the source of all the chaos in Duckburg and St. Canard. But will this less than dynamic duo be able to concentrate on the task at hand when skinflint Scrooge finds a way to turn a profit? Only Epic Mickey's Warren Spector has the answers! Concluded in Darkwing Duck #18, out this month!"

Darkwing Duck #18: "(W) Ian Brill (A) James Silvani Final Issue! 'Dangerous Currency,' Part 4. The epic Darkwing Duck/DuckTales crossover event concludes right here! This is it fans, the last Disney single issue from KABOOM! has arrived. It's the end of an era as we say goodbye to Disney at KABOOM! Don't miss this landmark final issue from the relationship that put kids comics back on the map!"

It's still very strange to me, because according to Aaron Sparrow, Boom had the Disney licence up until mid-2012. But it seems either he was wrong, or the plans have changed somehow.

Now the only unkown is : will Marvel take over the Disney line?? I sure HOPE so!!!

I think it is because Disney owns Marvel and want to keep everything in house!

Aaron Sparrow tweeted this today :

"Fans shouldn't panic today, because I just had a meeting with some folks about the future of Disney Afternoon comics. #sworntosecrecy"

I hope that means there IS a future :)

I am optimistic, but not OVERLY optimistic. Marvel may just not do anything, they may only do reprints, or they may only focus on Darkwing Duck/Ducktales and not try new series.

So, finally it really looks like *they* are interested in bringing some/all of DA shows back. But this is IF ONLY they're REALLY going to give license to Marvel.

18 issues is kinda long, to me! I'd be already OVERJOYED if only 4 issues of TaleSpin had been made.

Also, don't forget that the reason they're cancelling them, is because the licence is expiring, not because the sales aren't good enough. And the other reason is because the CLASSICS Disney titles didn't do as well as expected, and they're not in good terms with Disney anymore. (they didn't answer to their requests to get the Gargoyles licence, I think Disney wants to keep the licences for them just like what happened with the Pixar stuff previously)

The Darkwing Duck wasn't around for long as far as I know.
