Rio is an animated film, released in 2011 and produced by the Blue Sky Studios/Twentieth Century Fox Animations. The film follows the same animation styles as today’s CGI animated films and was brought by the producers of Ice Age and Horton Hears A Who!
The story of Rio revolves around a young lady named Linda and her one-of-a-kind Spix Macaw named Blu. After realizing that Blu was the last of his kind, the two of them set out to Rio de Janeiro to find Blu’s new partner, an independent female macaw named Jewel. However, after the two macaws get snatched up by a band of bird smugglers, Blu and Jewel begin their adventures with their new friends Rafael the Toco Toucan, Luiz the Bulldog, Nico the Yellow Canary, and Pedro the Red-Crested Cardinal.
The film was a box office success, grossing over $483 million worldwide. It was also critically successful, with many critics praising its story and characters, as well as the animation. It was released on DVD and Blu-ray on August 2, 2011 in the US, July 7 in Brazil, and September 28 in Australia. Rio Source is dedicated to an animated film showing us the beauty of birds.
A sequel has been announced, and is currently slated to be released worldwide in 2014, in time for the World Soccer Cup, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro
