Age: Middle-aged adult
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Personality: Sliver is a hard book to read. He has a tough exterior on the outside, but he doesn’t trust anyone around him enough to reveal what’s on the inside. Sliver is a bit confused as to the paths he has chosen to take in life, but one thing he’s positive about is revenge. One of Sliver’s greatest qualities is his ability to “dumb down” his emotions; you may never know he is depressed until much later – after he has gotten over it. He doesn’t let others help him and prefers a solitary life than one filled with crowds.
Despite his like for being alone, however, he isn’t one to go down without a fight. When presented with good opportunities, Sliver is no dummy. He takes what he can get, and his strong physique is perfect when it comes to fights. Sliver can be very outspoken if given the need to, and his confidence is high enough that he feels he can take anything by force. Often, he gets others to do his work for him, because he needs quiet time to himself. He uses this time to think, and indeed, he is a very calculating canine. He plans things ahead of time and doesn’t miss a beat. You’ll never find him faltering because rarely anything fazes him… except bringing up ancient history. That bothers him a lot.
History: Sliver’s life was pretty average before he met his mate, Kaley. Of course, he was born a stray, but his parents always took great care of him and nothing significant ever happened in his puphood. He was one of the bigger pups in his litter, so he wasn’t bullied by any of his siblings – though he did play fight frequently with his brothers. This helped build up his strong muscles and tough attitude later on.
Around his late teens, Sliver found himself smack in the middle of a fancier New York than what he had ever known. While walking past a few stores, taking in the odd sights, another brilliant spectacle caught his eyes. He turned to see a beautiful Chow Chow strutting on the other side of the street, though she was with a human. Sliver was hesitant to approach her at first, but he eventually got up his wits and ran towards her. She seemed extremely nice, as did her human, but Sliver had been taught since his birth not to trust people. Her – Kaley’s – human attempted petting the German Shepherd, but he turned tail and ran off instead, preferring not to submit to a dangerous species.
He did manage to track Kaley’s trail, though, and he followed her and her human to their home. He snuck through a hole in the fence and had some one-on-one time with Kaley without her human’s presence. He ended up doing this for weeks and even months, until the two fell for each other. Kaley suggested that Sliver move into her master’s house with her. Her humans would be more than happy to let him into their home, she said. Sliver, however, voiced his opinion on humans. Kaley found this to be a ridiculous thought, but all the same, she respected the beliefs he had grown up with, and the next night – after saying goodbye to her masters – Kaley ran off with the German Shepherd.
The next few years were pleasant, and the two lived happily on the streets together. When they became adults, the couple had pups. Three pristine boys were born: Grimm, Alphonse, and Adrian. The pair couldn’t be happier… but that was until something awful happened. A few months after the birth of their litter, Kaley was taken by dog catchers. Sliver almost made it to her in time, but when he got there he was too late. He learned from the other dogs in there that she had been euthanized only a few days before, and Sliver was so devastated he nearly forgot to take care of the pups. He let them go the first chance he got, and as soon as the pups were out of the way, Sliver knew he could finally exact revenge upon the pound – once and for all. He would use it for his own purposes. He would rule this side of New York, and no one would be able to stop him.
He built up his gang slowly, taking in a few dogs at a time. Every now and then, he asks those he has taken in if they can think of another canine worthy of his time. This brings in new recruits with special abilities. Sliver’s mission is to rescue the innocent from the pound and put in it instead his enemies – though who he perceives as guilty and who as innocent is entirely different from a sane dog. In a sense, he has not a “sliver of sanity” left, and he has proved his name’s worth time and time again. He still resides in the same side of New York, watching and waiting for perfect moments to strike. He has become quite the top dog around there, and he lets anyone else who doesn’t figure that out know it.
