Sarabi est la sage compagne de Mufasa. Mère attentionnée et reine des plus magestueuses, elle sera dévastée par la disparition de son lion et de Simba. Courageuse, elle demeura tout de même forte de carractère et sera l'une des seules lionnes à tenir tête à la gouverne de Scar, jusqu'à mettre en danger sa propre vie. Éventuellement, ses efforts seront récompensés par le retour de son fils, qui lui apportera paix d'esprit...

Zazu est le fidèle majordome du roi Mufasa. Il survole la savane en quête de nouvelles à amasser pour son rapport du matin quoitidien ainsi que pour repérer les situations qui nécessiteraient l'attention imédiate du roi. Il est parfois chargé de surveiller Simba, ce qui n'est rarement chose facile...

Timon est une mangouste bien bavarde. Meilleur ami de Pumbaa depuis bien longtemps, il s'opposera à sauver Simba par peur d'être justement dévoré par celui-ci. Ayant toujours la manie de voler les idées de son fidèle ami, il acceptera en vain. Vaniteux et têtu, il accepte rarement la défaite et d'avoir tort.

Phacochère au grand coeur, Pumbaa est le meilleur ami de Timon. Contrairement à celui-ci, il est avide de découvertes et n'a pas peur d'affronter la réalité. Très compréhensif, il proposera à Timon de ramener Simba en lieu sûr. De nature très réservée, il n'hésite toutefois pas à faire volte face pour ceux qui en éprouvent le besoin.

Zira est la mère de Kovu, Vitani et Nuka. Elle aurait vraisemblablement eu une liaison avec Scar, ce qui expliquerait sa haine envers Simba pour l'avoir supposément tué. Détestant celui-ci au plus haut point, elle entraînera Kovu afin d'arriver à ses fins: Mettre fin au règne de Simba et reconquérir la Terre des Lions.

Kovu est le fils de Zira et le fils adoptif de Scar. Élevé dès son plus jeune âge pour suivre les traces de Scar et venger sa mort, Zira l'entraînera à devenir insensible et à mettre en pratique ce qu'elle aurait toujours aimé faire d'elle même: Tuer Simba... Mais son plan ne se déroulera pas comme prévu lorsqu'il rencontrera Kiara après avoir grandi...
 

Kiara est la fille de Simba et Nala. Entêtée tout comme son père l'était lorsqu'il était lionceau, elle désobéira à ses ordres, ce qui lui permettra de s'aventurer sur les Terres Interdites et de faire la connaîssance de Kovu. Quelques temps plus tard, sa première chasse tournera au désastre et elle sera alors secourrue par un vieil ami...

Vitani est la fille de Zira, et la soeur de Nuka et Kovu. Fidèle et obéissante, elle accomplira les désirs de sa mère en enquêtant sur l'évolution du plan de l'infiltration de Kovu dans le clan de Simba... Jjusqu'à-ce qu'elle comprenne finalement la vérité et fasse allusion aux véritables principes de sa mère. Rude et déterminée, elle n'hésite pas à s'attaquer aux membres de la famille royale...

Nuka est le fils de Zira et le frère de Kovu et Vitani. Il est particulièrement jaloux de Kovu dut au fait qu'il réclame toute l'attention du clan... Il essayera de se mériter les faveurs de sa mère et de prouver que lui aussi pourrait devenir roi, étant plus vieux et selon lui plus rusé...  Se grattant constamment, il a des problèmes de termites - qui lui ont d'ailleurs rongé une bonne partie de sa crinière.

Banzai est une hyène faisant parti du trio acolyte de Scar avec Shenzi et Ed. Impatient et gourmand, il a souvent de la difficulté à tolérer les cabriolles d'Ed.. Il est alors ramené à l'ordre par Shenzi, beaucoup plus autoritaire que lui.

Shenzi est la seule hyène femelle du film. Contrairement à la croyance populaire, c'est bien celle qui démontre le plus de carractère et n'accepte pas que les lions contrôlent absolument tout. Rebelle et insolente, elle a souvent tendance à vouloir faire ce qu'il lui plaît, malgré qu'elle respecte Scar, jusqu'à-ce que celui-ci s'auto-trahisse...

Ed est l'une des hyènes accolytes de Scar. Muet, il ne sait s'exprimer que par des rires incessants et des gloussements, à un point tel que l'on pourrait croire qu'il est quelque peu dérangé... Néamoins, il se contente de suivre ses congénaires et de détendre l'atmosphère!

Rafiki est un sage mandrill qui chronique les évènements de la terre des lions dans son baobab. Il a d'ailleurs présenté deux générations de naissances royales. Grand ami de Mufasa, il sera particulièrement attristé par sa mort. Quelques temps plus tard, il retrouvera Simba et le persuadera de revendiquer sa place en tant que roi légitime. 

Oncle Max, tout comme son nom l'indique, est l'oncle de Timon. Il est un personnage qui est plutôt impatient, particulièrement à l'endroit de son neveu - craignant que celui-ci ne fasse d'autres dégâts dans les tunnels. En dernier recourt, il enseigna à Timon l'essentiel afin de devenir la sentinelle de la colonie, mais en vain, il sera le dernier à lui avoir témoigné sa confiance avant que Timon ne décide de quitter pour vivre sa propre aventure dans la savane africaine...

La mère de Timon est une suricate plutôt protective, comme tout mère le serait à l'égard de sa famille. Tout comme son fils, elle a un puissant carractère et n'hésite pas à en faire l'usage lorsque nécessaire. Elle est toujours là pour Timon et respecte ses choix, aussi contre-nature soient-ils.

Simba est le personnage principal du film.  Curieux et aventureux, il désobéira aux conseils qui lui seront donnés, ce qui lui causera par ailleurs de nombreux ennuis... Meilleur ami de Nala, tout deux viveront ensemble de nombreuses aventures jusqu'à-ce qu'ils soient séparés par de tragiques évènements... Dévoré par des remords infligés par son oncle Scar, Simba sera plus tard sauvé par Timon et Pumbaa, avec lesquels il grandira dans la jungle, abordant une vie ''sans souci'' basée sur le principe d'Hakuna Matata, jusqu'au moment où il ne sera plus en mesure de dissimuler la vérité et devra faire face à ses responsabilités...

Sarafina is the mother of Nala and Mheetu, who doesn't appear in the movie. In the book, her along with a lion named Ni, helped rescue Chumvi, Kula, and Nala from hyenas. In the movie, Sarafina has only but one line, when she asked Sarabi what she thought. It is thought that Sarafina was in the second movie as well, when it was Kiara's first hunt and a lion has said "Oh my how you've grown!". There is no solid evidence to prove it was her. She is never called by name in the movie/movies, but in the end credits, it shows her name.

When Ni was old enough to survive on his own, he left his pride. He wanders into the Pride Lands and saves Nala from a hyena. He is rather concerned with not being flaky, and Kula and Nala think that if he groomed his fur, he'd look cute. He is welcome to stay with the pride, but he insists that he wants his own pride, and leaves never to be seen again. 

Ni appears in the book, Nala's Dare.

 Mheetu is Nala's younger brother, but was cut so he does not appear in the film due to time constraints; little is known about him. However, in an early script of The Lion King, Scar throws Mheetu into a wilderbeest stampede in the gorge as an attempt to lure adolescent Simba to his death, but later rescues Mheetu and survives. 

In most fanarts Mheetu is considered to be around Nala's and Vitani's fur color.

Kopa is the son of Simba and Nala, and technically the older brother of Kiara. The main theory of Kopa's death was that he was killed by Zira in revenge for Scar's death. When Zira was claimed guilty of Kopa's death she and her followers were banished to the Outlands.

Ahadi is first seen in "A Tale of Two Brothers" as the king of the Pridelands. Ahadi is the mate of Uru and the father of Mufasa and Taka (Scar). Ahadi befriends Rafiki after saving him from the three hyenas which do appear in the TLK films.

Chumvi is one of Nala's best friends. He appears in the book, "Nala's Dare". His parents are unknown.

One of Nala and Chumvi's friends during Scar's reign. Kula would rather eat than anything else. Many fans think her and Chumvi might have been litter-mates because of their similar appearance despite their gender.

Malka is a cub who appears in the comic "Simba's New Brother". He is around Simba's age. His pride lives on the other side of the mountain. The location of the mountain is unknown, but it is described as being near Pride Rock.

"King" Joe is a mysterious rogue who wandered into the Pridelands. He is a golden-brown lion with a sandy chest, a brown, scraggly mane, a large, sandy muzzle, and sandy paws. He is very thin and bony.

"King" Joe appears in A False Ancestor.

Mega appeared in the book, "Vulture Shock" when he was talking to Kopa.

The Selfish Lion is the primary antagonist in "The Brightest Star".

He has a very thin, lank build with pale brown fur and a reddish-brown mane.

Tanglemane is a male lion found in the comic book, "In Deep Water."

He has a golden pelt, mahogany mane and a multi-colored muzzle. He also has 4 slashes across his frontal left leg.

Fluffy est le petit lionceau qui est présenté à la fin du premier film du roi lion. Le second film n'ayant pas été prévu à la base, les créateurs du film on voulut représenter que le " cicle de la vie " continuait en créant un enfant à Nala et Simba. Ils lui donnèrent le nom de Fluffy ( pelucheux en anglais ).Ce nom différent du style du film est la preuve que ce petit lionceau était prévu pour être figurant et non un personnage à proprement parlé. Nous ne savons rien de ce lionceau, à part ce nom donné par les créateurs. Son sexe est inconnu également. Les créateurs du second film ont transformé le petit Fluffy en Kiara. Contrairement aux idées reçues, Fluffy n'est pas Kopa ( qui a été inventé après la sortie du film ).

Mufasa is born a minute or so after Taka. He was a large cub who caused Uru some trouble during his birth, and even as an adult he is a particularly large, powerful male. He positively dwarfs Taka as a cub, and is stronger physically, and for this reason Mufasa is favoured by his father Ahadi and is tutored to be the next king. He receives all of his father’s attention while Taka receives none.

Uru’s teachings contradict with Ahadi’s: while Ahadi is adamant that there should only be one king, Uru wants both her sons to share the throne. Mufasa is confused at best – he partly wants to know his brother yet his father constantly tells him that it would be best not to, for Taka (while expected to die as a cub) would need to be driven from the pride once Mufasa claimed the throne. “To know him would mean it would hurt you all the more to do what is necessary to keep your position as king safe”, Ahadi would say to his son. And Mufasa listened. His father was always right... wasn’t he?

After Ahadi’s death under suspicious circumstances, Uru takes over the teachings of her now young-adult sons and is sure to keep both of them involved when she makes her rounds of the kingdom and communicates with the animals of the land. Uru passes away, hopeful for the future of the kingdom, but unfortunately Ahadi’s favouring of Mufasa and neglect of Taka has forever made a massive impact. Mufasa, while having enough of his mother’s influence to allow his brother to remain with the pride, is still like his father in that he has little respect for Taka, whom he addresses as Scar. Taka, meanwhile, holds a contemptuous attitude towards everyone in the pride and mostly keeps to himself. He did not even attend the ceremony of Mufasa’s son Simba, and although Mufasa approached his brother about the matter he had to admit he wasn’t surprised at his brother’s poor attitude. Trust him to act like an overgrown cub...

Mufasa never really regarded Scar as being capable of malicious intent. Antisocial and sulky maybe, but dangerous? Never. And that assumption of his brother later proved to be his downfall.
