The Jungle Book, first released in 1994 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the original Rudyard Kipling novel, was released by Disney as a live-action adaptation of the book. The film takes a new spin, with the humans that Mowgli interacts with, now being British soldiers stationed in India during the late 1880s. The film was directed by Stephen Sommers, and stars Jason Scott Lee as Mowgli and Cary Elwas as his main adversary.
The film follows Mowgli, who was separated from humans at a young age. When he goes back to living with them, he is faced with the delimma of not being a man, but not being a beast either. The film follows his journey through learning about civil life, while his adversaries seek a treasure that only he knows of.
The film received strong cirtical reception, and has been released on DVD in many countries.
