Jungle Book was the first adaptation of the 1894 book by Rudyard Kipling. It was directed by Zoltan Korda, written by Laurence Stallings, and music by Miklós Rózsa. It was nominated for four Academy Awards: Art Direction, Cinematography, Original Score, and Special Effects.
The film is regarded as the closest adaptation of Kipling's original book as any motion picture has come. The film follows Mowgli, whose father is killed by Shere Khan and is forced to live life in the jungle, raised by a pack of wolves. One day, when he returns to his village, he encounters Buldeo, the man protagonist of the story, who takes Mowgli under his wing and raises him himself. A series of misadventures leads to Shere Khan's death, and Mowgli disappearing back in the jungle with a new lover--who happens to be Buldeo's own daughter.
The film is in the public domain, and as such is relatively easy to find and watch. It has received mixed to positive reviews, and is an enjoyable film for any Jungle Book fan.
