Hey everyone, Paxis here.
First of all, I apologize for the lack of fan news around here on The Lion King Source.
I suppose I should get the bad news through first, eh? I've been meaning to announce for a while that there won't be a Timon & Pumbaa section, or atleast not any time soon, due to the fact that we've encountered some programming errors needed to complete the section. The section is there for the future in case we obtain the programming we need, but for now it's dead and unopened.
Now, on to brighter news. How's about our much-needed site and [...]

This past year has been one of the largest in animation history, wielding a total of 14 films commercially released in English-speaking countries. Of these, 9 were sequels, continuations, re-releases, or otherwise Smurfy. Three were traditionally-animated, two were entirely motion-capture, and four ended up in the Top 10 Grossing Films of the year.

Let's take a look at the films released this past year, in release order. Beginning with Gnomeo and Juliet, which was released in America on February 11. It opened at the #3 spot its opening weekend, grossing [...]

17 commentsThis piece of news came about in an obscure way. The previously-announced Pixar film involving dinosaurs has had its release date replaced with, you guessed it, The Snow Queen. However, there's a new piece of information emerging: The film is now entitled Frozen.

This practice of changing movie names is not new to Disney; before Tangled was released, it was advertised and produced under the name Rapunzel. The idea behind this is to make it clear that these films are aimed more toward families and both genders, rather than kids--specifically, little girls.
This film [...]

1 commentTo celebrate the Christmas season, Animation Source has begun to snow! (Yes, snow!)

The "snow" season is forecast to last up through the end of December, into January, at least! If this turns out to slow your computer down too much, you can easily make it stop snowing by pressing the "Stop Snow" button at the top of any Source page. To start it again, press the same button, which will now say "Star Snow".
Snow has been a tradition on Animation Source for several years. Have fun watching it snow!

Post a commentToday marks the final key date of the 1st Annual Animation Source Choice Awards before voting begins. Today I have gone over the animated films that were released in 2011, and prepared it to be released on January 1. I handed it off to Conay, host of the official ASCA website. With this, there's exactly one month before the ASCAs officially begin!
To help commemorate this event, I have prepared a video to help promote the awards show, while hopefully helping you, the members of Animation Source, gain a better understanding of what the ASCAs are all about.
Hope you enjoy [...]

Hello everyone!
This is a news to help promote a new Talespin contest! Here is everything you need to know:
The contest is simple: you just have to do a digital Talespin Fan Art. Don't make an enormous background and try to adopt a "form" for your logo as a circle, for example. Be realistic: this logo is for a T-shirt contest! Don't do a complete and huge pic!
This is just for fun. Disney will probably not see it. Anyway, it could be fun to see some different ideas for these T-shirt, because the old logo is everywhere.
So, here are [...]

I have spotted a small reference to TaleSpin in the PC video game "Cargo! - The Quest for Gravity" which was released this year.
It's actually in the official manual of the game (click to see full screen) :
Pretty cool!
I don't have it so I don't know if there's any reference to it in the actual game.

5 commentsThe summer holidays are almost over (for some of you, they ARE over), but that doesn't mean that animated films are coming to a halt. In fact, some might say that the best films of 2011 are yet to come!
First of all, the news that I think a lot of you will find the most interesting: on September 16, for a limited 2-week run, Disney is re-releasing The Lion King in theaters, in 3D! This means that you'll be able to not only see it on the big screen, but with new 3D technology. While opinions on this range from terrific to negative (one newspaper called it "Disney's [...]

4 commentsOk, yet another news that will make visitors confused with our own TaleSpin Fan Comics project, but someone has posted some concepts for a Ducktales / TaleSpin crossover on DeviantArt, and I couldn't resist to show it to everyone!
I definitely think that such a crossover would be a definite winner, because the two series share a lot of common points (adventure being a big part of both), AND this would let us see some characters relationships we've never seen (Baloo & young scrooge? ah ah, love that pic!)

As announced previously by a news, I'm changing the staff on Animation Source to a smaller, easier to manage and more neutral one.
But first, I want everyone to know that I have updated the rules to reflect my current sensibility on the problems that occured on the site these years.
I have made rules less « strict » and more leaning on common sense.
I think it's important that EVERYONE listens to MY « RULES » on the sites. There's been so many people making their own rules and spreading them, even visitors, that it's caused the [...]

Aside from a big-budget movie making big bucks this week end (aka the last part of Harry Potter, taking in the best grossing weekend ever for a film), there was a small and simple movie which doesn't play in the same league : Winnie The Pooh.
This charming film is an attempt from Disney to revitalize this franchise (after the failed attempts at making CGI Winnie, Disney didn't want to lose one of the best selling franchise when it comes to merchandise), and the image of the company at the same time, by making it a 2D movie just like the original film. It was made by high [...]

There isn't an official announcement, but all clues lead to the same conclusion...
Disney/Marvel is getting back the Disney properties for comic books.
Let me summarize everything I know.

By early 2009, Boom! announced that they got the Pixar and Muppets licences.
Then by mid-2009, they got the "Disney classics" licence.
One month later, Disney bought the Marvel company for billions of dollars...
Boom Studios was able to release Pixar and Muppets titles, until October 2010, when they stopped abruptly to release them. For a few months, Boom [...]

2 commentsEDIT on August 2012 : Looking back at this, I obviously overreacted, due to the disappointment. It appears we'll probably never know the "real" reason behind the cancellation and various problems of the Disney / Boom Studios comics.
Newsflash : TaleSpin is NOT A DISNEY AFTERNOON PROPERTY!!!

http://forums.boom-studios.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2509
What could appear to be a joke, is unfortunately the horrible truth : Disney considers TaleSpin as an entirely separate licence. So yes, forget the fact that TaleSpin was the FIRST show CREATED FOR the [...]

19 commentsLet's get started! First of all, there has been a LOT of updates for Sourcecast. When last we left our beloved podcast, Episode 8 had just been posted on Youtube. I am now happy to say that Episode 8 has been uploaded to Mypodcast, our hosting site, and can be downloaded on iTunes. Not only that, but a new feature has been added to Sourcecast: The Skultacular Special!

Skultacular Specials are the new "interview" part of our podcast, as in the past it has been proven that getting several people together for a Skype call is tedious at best. So far, [...]

Ok, not exactly TaleSpin, but it's still very interesting. It looks like TaleSpin is not the only series with licencing trouble...Gummi Bears too.

There is one word that causes me to break into song – “Ducktales!” Did you finish singing the rest of it? Like many of you, I was glued to the television watching the Disney Afternoon when younger. There were so many great shows (with great theme songs – “Spin it!”). Fortunately for many fans (including me), there is an artist with [...]

Post a commentWe've been informed that All Dogs Go To Heaven 1 & 2, Anastasia and Secret of NIMH will all be coming up on Bluray, on March 29th!
This is kind of a shocking news to me, as I really didn't expect any company besides Disney to release any of their traditional features on Blu-ray anytime soon. I'm glad to be proven wrong! If these do well, maybe there's hope for Universal releasing Balto and both An American Tail on Blu-ray too?

2 commentsThe nominees for the 83rd Annual Academy Awards have been announced. While there aren't many surprises, animated films certainly take up a good portion of nominated films.

The easiest film on the list to recognize is Toy Story 3, which has received a total of 5 Oscar nominations--tied for the second-most in animated history. The five it has been nominated for are: BEST PICTURE, BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY, BEST ANIMATED FEATURE, BEST ORIGINAL SONG ("We Belong Together"), and BEST SOUND EDITING.
Also on the list is How to Train Your Dragon, with 2 [...]

Did you know that a graphical novel version of the fan-favorite episode "The Old Man and the Sea Duck" was released in 1991?
Well I sure knew about the comic version, but not that one! So I bought it, and you can read that 48 pages book right here.
My little review : this is a simplified version of the episode. Some of the events are changed (especially the beginning, with Wildcat already in the plane when Baloo has to go through the "Mirkle Pass", and he eventually gets hit by a...coconut.)
The art on the characters is [...]

It's been a long while since I've been
working on that, but it's finally here!
Lately, there have been many issues surrounding the moderation of fan creations, and in particular the fan characters : too many characters to validate, long waits for validations,... But the biggest source of problems, is that each person has different opinions on what SHOULD or SHOULDN'T be accepted in this section. And this leads to conflicts between the members and the mods, and none would really know what rules to follow.
Well here is my solution. No more characters deactivated! [...]

After Greece recently, it seems another country is getting a release of TaleSpin DVDs : Czech Republic. This follows the same pattern : 4 episodes on each DVD.
Also, another batch of TaleSpin DVDs has been released in Greece, which seem to follow the content of the american ones (volume 1 then volume 2) even if they are cut into a lot more discs.
So I guess this means it did good sales. If it stays successful, maybe we could finally have a way to get the remaining 11 episodes in good DVD quality? (rather than ugly Youtube quality!)
