Because it's illegal to hunt a doe when she has a fawn - same with all animals and when they have babies. So it would've been illegal poaching, which is, obviously, wrong. I don't like how they evilised men in the films, but.. as long as the audience know what the men are doing is actually against the law (and something a proper hunter would never do) then I suppose it's fine. xD Plus it makes it more interesting I suppose. Even though I'm sure there were carnivorous animals in the forest we never saw who preyed on all the cute little herbivores, but meh xD Well keep in mind that the original Bambi story was written by Austrian Felix Salten back in 1929. It is very reasonable to assume that hunting laws back then, in that country, were not only different from what they are now either there or here in the U.S. (or anywhere else in Europe or North America), but the attitude about deer may have been different as well. I couldn't find anything on the net, in a "quick n' dirty" search, for anything regarding Austrian hunting laws in the 1920s (keeping in mind that, at that time, Austria was actually part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in that era, and not an independent country), unfortunately. Though I don't care for man in the movie either. Nor the hunting dogs. (I do believe, however, that an English translation of the choices in the poll would have been better on this English side of the forums.) Roi Doberwolf wrote: ...that wasn't a rant, by the way. Just thought I should make clear that Man was the actual bully of the Bambi movies. Actually Ronno is most definitely a second antagonist in both Bambi movies, and a bully. Moreso, actually, in the sequel than in the first one (once we all get past our humanizing of the character and viewing what he did in the first movie as bullying, which was really nothing more than doing his best to get a mate). In the sequel, he most definitely was a bully...a funny, snarky one, but a bully all the same. Roi Doberwolf wrote: What happened to Bambi's mom wasn't hunting. It was sport. Sport to me, is just wrong. That was never made clear in the movie. Once Bambi does finally run back into the forest, we never see what happens to his mother, or what the hunter does with her. Not that Disney would ever deign to show such a thing. And that's just as well.

Just out of curiosity, where DID everyone get the idea that Man was poaching? That never even crossed my mind either while watching the movies OR reading the books--and in the books more stuff was flat-out, like Man actually being seen.
But on-topic...Man. For all the reasons stated above.

I may be wrong here, but I suspect it has to do with people seeing cute fuzzy wittle innocent deery-deer, and making bold, presumptuous conclusions because there are so many people who frequent sites like this who hate hunters and everything to do with hunting, regardless of the reasons, motivations and practices (and laws).

But I should've said 'enemy' or 'villain'. I don't know why I said what I said. - I highly doubt it was anything else. I can't imagine someone who wouldn't hunt for sport killing a doe that CLEARLY had a fawn with her.

Roi Doberwolf wrote: Why you quote such an old post? I used so many words wrong then... In the second Ronno was the bully yeah, sure. But I should've said 'enemy' or 'villain'. I don't know why I said what I said. Well the intent wasn't to draw attention to what you may now feel was a flaw in your wording. It was simply to participate in the discussion and offer a response by way of counterpoint is all. Roi Doberwolf wrote: I highly doubt it was anything else. I can't imagine someone who wouldn't hunt for sport killing a doe that CLEARLY had a fawn with her. And no one is saying you're wrong in believing that. But it still doesn't negate the fact that we are not shown, in the movie, what the intentions of the unseen hunter were other than to hunt down and shoot a deer. Beyond that, we're left with presumptions. And besides, showing that would have taken away from the story itself, which was about how Bambi dealt with that particular trauma and other aspects of growing up. The movie wasn't a statement on what some view as the evils of hunting. It was about the coming of age of a young deer (and his friends) in a forest in some undetermined part of the world. We don't even know what kind of deer Bambi and the others are. In the U.S., where the film was made, and in Canada, we would naturally presume either white-tail, black-tail or mule deer. And it's clear that, when Walt Disney got a hold of it and began production, he used whitetail deer as models for the characters...and other North American animals. But we also must not forget that the original story was written by an Austrian. His experience would have been with other species indigenous to the European continent. Therefore, he could have envisioned Bambi and the other deer as anything from roe deer, to fallow deer, to red deer (it's been too long since I've read the original story, so I don't know whether or not Felix Salten ever specified what type of deer Bambi and the others were). And that would probably be the presumption of anyone in Europe. Then you go to Asia (especially the far east), and you can even have the possibility of sika deer. lol See how complex this gets when one guesses and makes presumptions?

Well to be honest i didn't really enjoy thumper all that much, boo and hiss me all you want, but i just found him slightly annoying especially in the sequel. But that doesn't mean i despise him, he's funny he has his memorable moments but i just found him slightly annoying that's all.
