I just felt like re-posting my images here. This way, you can see them here together without going from one image to another. Sorry if this sounds tedious. *Please note that I drew this a few weeks before the film came out* This is my reply to all the merchandise and fan art that either has Tiana looking like she's hooked on PCP.
Really! She isn't happy, and I'll note why: First, her father died while she was growing up. Her mother disapeers, so that'll give her a attitude.
Second, her best friend Charlotte gives her foofy dresses when Tiana never wanted to wear them in the first place.
Third, Naveen is a slacker and gives a "most magical kiss of all time that they have to do it twice" kiss which leads her into doing slave labor even in her frog form for the frog-version prince.
Now, explain to me why she has this happy expression on most of the merchandise? At least the poster get's it right. She doesn't know where kissing Naveen will take her.
The things about the film I'm looking for are dr. Facilier(which both my parents say he looks like Obama even though the real reason why I'm looking forward is he voiced by Goliath of Gargoyles and he's a man whose good on his finances even by villainous means) and Naveens/Charlottes mansion(i'm not sure who owns it since I'm only looking at the production art).
Thanks Tvtropes for spoiling it for me(besides the Walter foster drawing tutorial book for this film that I purchased yesterday and the panphlets for Walt disney studio event).
This gave me problems due to me doing it twice, the idiot that was me accidently turned my paint program off without saving it which made me do a all-nighter on this piece... I drew the Naveen picture before the film came out due to my disgust of the merchandise they sold before it came out.
This time I used a official source to draw by and to help articulate a cartoon frog.
To point out, the things that I liked to come out of this film before it aired had to be the tutorial book. Since it gave me light on the characters(even if it did spoil a little).
Now that my family went to the special event at the animation studios, my parents bought some very good merchandise, including a golden book with golden book designed versions of the characters(this is due to John Lassiter trying to make the Disney and Pixar characters appear in that pastel style whenever they appear in those books), magnetized kissing Naveen and Tiana frog version that's better than what's pictured above, and a lithograph they gave out to visitors who went to the event.
This event was about seeing the film at the animation studios, and then after you got to actually meet a person dressed as Tiana and other Disney princesses. They also had games were if you won, they would give out cards of the characters, with information of. Another interesting thing, but I somewhat missed out on due to the event closing for the night, was meeting a actual animator. This gave me a chance to do a portfolio review, even if my uncle thought before the event that it was just going to be a video showing a animator drawing. It was Eric Goldberg, the animator of Raymond, the firefly. Very great man. Unfortunately, I didn't get a long chance of meeting since my family decided taking the tour of the studio. The surprising thing about the tour is that we actually got to see the seven dwarves statues due to my mother being in a wheel chair. They dressed Dopey in a Santa Clause hat.
Just to note, I did take pictures of the event, but my computer isn't letting me do things quickly. Hopefully next year I'll get a new computer so I can check on all three accounts with finess.
I kind of feel bad that I've been continually listening to the soundtrack, but then again, I love Randy Newman's music. He's such a master.
The artical I pasted my drawing on is from Entertainment Earth catalog. It's the same catalog where I got my Rorschach and Question action figures as Christmas presents from my parents.
Expect more art of Princess and the Frog later on.
The Princess and the Frog hit me well since most of my life has revolved around frogs. My first character that I admired was Sanrio's Keropi. Later on, the Naruto character, Jaraiya was a favorite of mine(not that I completely follow the manga version with a liking though). I dressed as a character from the fairy tale the frog prince during a storytale fair.
To end on a funny note, I just saw my copy of the Muppets version of the Frog Prince, still funny as I remember it, and since I have a new found love of a certain composer due to listening to Tom Lehrer, finding out that Joe Raposo did the music made me like it even more! He's done Grinch Night and several variations of Tom Lehrer songs with Lehrer singing, so it's great to see another source. Yes! It's another.... Princess and the Frog related image!
Wow, like you didn't expect that to happen from me. Seriously though, it's a fun movie with excellent character development. No matter how much the fangirls pine for more appearances of Dr. Facilier(ominous forshadowing on future art).
Anyways, this took me some effort since I accidentally drew this on the back of a paper bag rather than the front. Which left a indent on the art I was working on.
Also, Louie as a human is much easier than Tiana or Naveen. While Eric Goldberg works with roundness, what the heck is it that the protagonists have to be so angular and compact?! I have better to work on Louis just due to having some width to the character.
About Naveen's eyes, I didn't mean to make them small, the inking just changed in the process, compared to the pencil. now that I look at the image again, I feel that he looks like Jimmy Derante.
Personally, I find Tiana's Duke uniform the prettist outfit in the picture. Sure, it's pedestrian, and it's not flashy, but it has the charm that the other dresses didn't have. It was simplistically one color, but the design works.
Ongoing with the closing design, I decided to have Naveen and Tiana in the pedestrian clothing since it would work in the city of New Orleans rather than in a kingdom. This picture is intentionally drawn to have the New Orleans backdrop. Having the outfits based as the color schemes in their animal forms gives it a plus.
As for Louis, that's the only outfit that I feel that someone with little money would wear at the time, and I think that's due to Tiana's father, James, apparel as well. Though not as much, since I studied the time period.
Again, Louis was the easiest design for me, but I guess it was also due to digging it out of my imagination.
This was probably inspired to listening to the soundtrack too many times. Especially how strong Micheal Leon Wulley is when singing(I mean, I guess being in the show Ain't Misbehavin' gives him a good form of expirience).
So, to end it on a short note, here's my vision. Eat it!
