Just wondering, how the heck did Hiccup loose his leg? He fell head first...
and I doubt if it caught fire it could do THAT much damage.
I don't doubt the creators. It was creative and a nice touch giving him a
handicap like his dragon's so they had that much more of a special bond.
But still... can't figure it out.

Any ideas?

It's an animated film. Does it have to make sense? xD

Plus it could depend on the impact, but once again this is an animated movie, so the writers could do that. xD

The way in which Hiccup was falling would have most likely led him to (once in the blaze-zone) to head to the ground legs-first, or it could have potentially been the last part of Hiccup to be exposed to the Flame before Toothless wrapped himself around it.

oh maybe when he fell toothless grabbed his hook and pulls at it but his spine or what ever came out while he puled it ( i dont know the bone attached looked like a spine to me)

Revising my previous post, I'm thinking that perhaps Toothless used Hiccups leg to pull him to his grasp? This seem quite logical if he is heading down head first (watched the ending again and my last theory I went against). So if he was to bite into Hiccups leg to save him, he probably tore open a huge gash that was beyond repair.

(Maybe it was even Toothless getting even with him? Based on the attitude of Cressida Cowell's Toothless)

^ That's the most reasonable explanation I've heard yet.
