Personality: Like her ancestors before her, Hotaru is the typical Akita. She is loyal and very protective of those in her family. She's energetic with plenty of love and affection to give to those she trusts.
Bio: Hotaru was born in Monbetsu, Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan where she was adopted by a elderly widowed fisherman and was always seen with him on his boat, helping him drag the nets onto the boat and fetch fish that had managed to wiggle their way out of the net. Little did she know that her simple life was soon to change. Hotaru and her master were caught in a terrible storm and their little boat was thrown off course. Hotaru's master was knocked unconscious as the boat was tossed this way and that. When the storm died down, Hotaru went to check where they had drifted and the pebbled beach they had landed on was not one that was familiar. Preffering not to leave her master's side, Hotaru went back to him. His skin was paler than normal and he was shivering despite still being out cold. She laid her self over him, her thick coat keeping him warm. Hotaru was true to her breeds reputation, she was very loyal and protective of her master. Later that day, two men came onto the boat and Hotaru acted very agressive towards them, they thought they were going to harm her master but it was soon obvious that the men wouldn't harm him and so she let them pass. Althought she didn't understand what they were saying, Hotaru understood that her master was very unwell and he needed help so reluctantly, she let the men take her master to the local infirmary.
She would spend days waiting outside for him to get well again, those days turned into months and as the Alaskan winter drew ever closer she was approached by a male husky. He was handsome but oh so very rude and stubborn when around his friends. He taught her some basic English and she taught him basic Japanese. Hotaru learned that the husky's name was Steele and the two soon formed a close relationship. Steele tried to mate with her many times but Hotaru was not ready to become a mother yet so she would turn and pin Steele to the ground much to the husky's dislike for he hated to be humiliated. It was after one such event that the akita caught her mate with another female, and in her distress she attacked him while the other female looked on in horror. Steele lived to see the next day, but he was unsure of other dogs for a long time after that. Alone again, Hotaru returned to the infirmary where her master resided but sadly her beloved master had passed away. His weak and frail body couldn't take the illness that plagued him and he lost his battle. Even more distressed than before, Hotaru ran. She ran as far as her legs would carry her before collapsing into a heap in the snow. She sobbed and howled and her body shook violently as the pain of greif overtook her.
Fate was kind to the lonely Akita, she was found my another husky. This one was named Ralph and he took her in. He was so very kind to her and treated her with respect, as an Akita should be treated. Though she knew little English, he was able to understand what she meant. Although Ralph was involved with Dusty, it was clear who is true feelings were for. There was something about Hotaru that he really liked, maybe it was her loyalty or instinct to protect and guard those important to her. Their relationship grew and as the months passed, Hotaru felt like she truly belong somewhere. She was taken in by Ralph's human family and she very much adored by all of them. Hotaru was often left in charge of the house and children while her new family went away on business trips to New York. Her English improved every day and she was soon fluent, although with a heavy Japanese accent. After much discussions, Ralph and Hotaru brought four HuskyxAkita puppies into the world: Kei, Hana, Ran & Kyo. Whether Hotaru decides to have another litter is up to her..
