Aniu and The White Wolf

An article about the 2 white wolves

Strip Weathers :

I've been looking at pictures of Aniu and the white wolf (that appeared in Balto). I've noticed many differences.

1. Aniu has a different eye colour than that of the wolf in the original movie.

2. Aniu appeared to be well groomed when she made her final appearance in front of Balto at the end of Balto 2:Wolf Quest. The other wolf's fur wasn't groomed, but it sure kept him/her warm!

3.Aniu doesn't tower over Balto in Wolf Quest. She was shorter  than the other wolf, who towered over Balto.

4.Aniu opens and closes her mouth during her final howl goodbye, whereas the other wolf didn't do that.

5.Aniu has spoken to Balto. The other wolf hasn't spoken to Balto.

6.Aniu has seen Balto and Jenna's puppies. She might have been spiritually guarding/watching over them.

There are numerous other things that clearly separate Aniu from the other white wolf. Find a good picture of her and look at her carefully.

This is my very first article, so don't laugh at it, please!

I do have authority, you know!

Thank You.

Strip Weathers.

(in refrence to the argument that the white wolf didnt talk but aniu did) none of the wolves in balto 1 spoke they only howled. in balto 1 the wolves had a different speech ("whats wolf for go chase your tail"). Also the point that many people make about aniu being well groomed the white wolf was in a blizzard of course she/he wont look well groomed. and the size difference is mostly camra angle (when their both howling their nearly the same size) and the fur density/thickness difference could eisly be explained by shedding for summer.

so yes i do believe they are one and the same

I thought Aniu and the white wolf were two separate characters, but in the interview with street and phil wienstien, phil says that they are both thesame characters. Even with that, I do not know.

When I saw the film in theaters, I had originally thought that the white wolf had been male (it had looked, to me anyway, way too big to be a female). When 'Wolf Quest' was released, I was a bit disappointed that the writers had seemingly 'copped out' by saying that the wolf in the first film was Balto's mother.

Granted, I'm not saying that his mother WASN'T a white wolf (I just think that there's bound to be more than just one wolf with that color fur out there! I mean, look at Kiba from Wolf's Rain, for pity's sake! ^ ^;;; )

I think hey're the same, just her slits for eyes were to tiny to
color, so the computer made them look black, and in the 1st one, the
blizzard is blowing all her fur up, and in the 2nd one, the weather is
still and her fur is flat, and plus, she is a spirit, so she can
shape-shift and all that into a raven.

LOVED to article
tho!!!

I don't think that they are the same, and you guys won't
either when you go to Fluke's Tribute to Balto and go to the
"White Wolf" section. Everything is clearly explained
there. Great article, strip weathers!!

Yes, the white wolf in the first Balto movie has been
confirmed to be Aniu. She is most likely a spirit or have
special powers, so that is the reason why she has the
ability to not only shape shift, but to change her size. In
the first movie, her sole role was to help Balto. While in
the second movie this was also her role, she also had the
purpose of revealing who Balto's true mother was. The
difference in looks is the fact that it's the works of two
different animators.

I still don't understand why you people say they're the same
wolves. They. Are. Not. The B2 people wanted to make the
White Wolf Aniu but the B1 people had no intention of that.

I think there the same because in the 1st the white wolf
(aniu) appeared to remind Balto of his wolf heritage as he
layed in the snow about to give up and the whole height
differance is because of the fact that Balto is a hybrid
while Aniu is a pure wolf and wolves are normally taller
than dogs. The markings around the eyes is also the same
because the white wolf and Aniu both have the same eye
markings and also the animators where pretty lazy. this is
just my opinion but this is what i think and i'm not gonna
change my mind on this! By the way nice arcticle.

I think they were the same, And we don't know for sure if
the people actually did have an idea for Aniu already when
they made the first movie, but didn't put it in a movie
until they were sure they 'would' make a sequel. Usualy if
you make a char. for movies or comics you make a remimder
for you of there age and background and weight even. To help
them remember what the body would look like and he
personality. If you have a rough background then odds are
you'll havea rough atitude. So maybe they ment it to be his
unmentioned mother, I mean who would he tell his backgroud
to and in what kind of conversation?
i think it's aniu
in both movies, but very good article. you do have a lot of
differences!

good artical, but i believe that aniu and the white wolf are
the same wolf. there were differant animaters in the first
and second movie, so they could never get EVERYTHING right.
but there are a lot of mistakes that you found! plus, their eye colour is the same!

Yes, they are the same wolf it's just the animators aren't
doing as good of a job they did in balto 2 or 3 than in 1.

Seems to me that this arguement is very popular. XD Nice
article btw. I believe that the white wolf in Balto 1 was
NOT intended to be Balto's mother, but in the later movies
they decided to make it so.

I agree with many of you! Anui is a spirit and there for a
shape sifter. She was a raven before anyways. And it is true
that they had different animators. They can only do their
best. And the whole thing about the white wolf not talking
is kinda stupid. It would ruin the feeling of that scene.
But anyways, I still think they are the same dog and believe
me, your not gonna get me to change my mind.

i think that they are the same like i_love_alue said in the
first movie there was a blizzard wich made her fur messy and
could of made her fur eyes different colors like lighter and
in the second there was no sorm and it was later in the day
so it could of made her seem darker

I'd like them to be 2 wolves, but unfortunately it had been
proved that they're the same.

two words: lazy
animators.

well actually in another article steet sent a letter to the
producers of balto 2 and 3 and they stated that aniu was
ment to be the white wolf from balto 1. but all in all you
pionted out some very good facts about there differences,
great article

Well, the eye coor always looked the same to me. And if one
assumes that they ARE the same wolf, then some of the
differences you've pointed to are nonexistent (for example,
if Aniu IS the white wolf, then the white wolf HAS seen Balto
and Jenna's children (or at least Aleu). And as for the
speaking thing, it wasn't neccessary for the white wolf to
speak to Balto (in fact it would have badly spoiled the
drama of the character), whereas it was (emotionally) vital
for Aniu to speak to Balto, since she was his mother. So
actually some of your differences are circumstantial
differences, not concrete ones. Still, you have obviously
given the matter considerable thought. Good article, when
all's said and done.

nice but i think they are the same because it would be
piontless to make is mother a white wolf with similar stance
and cause all this confusion when they could've just made is
mum a brown wolf or somthing

All of those who say Anaiyu (in my verson when it was
released, the movie says Anaiyu) is the White Wolf - lies.
Even when Balto stood up to howl, when he would of been
taller than normal, the White Wolf STILL towered over him.
Anaiyu still is taller tham Balto, however not as much as
the White Wolf. Also, the eye and fur markings! Not the
same. The White Wolf has grey around her YELLOW eyes
(there's most likely some brown there too) while Anaiyu has
white around her freakishly unwolfish red eyes (were they
trying to imply she had conjunctivitis? XD). Therefore I
think the White Wolf is naturally white while Anaiyu is an
albino.

Although the White Wolf and Anaiyu can
both fade, the White Wolf fades into nothingness and Anaiyu
fades with mist around her.
Many many differences. Not
the same.

The differences between Aniu, and The White Wolf can be explained by the fact
that Aniu is a shape shifter Good article though.
